The title of the thread says it all. If you read the "new" usage agreement as of October 08, it says something to the effect of: you give Nintendo permission to update your system even if you do not agree to each update. I am at FW 3.3v1 and have the shop channel installed. It will not let me connect without agreeing to the wiiconnect24 agreement. Will this indeed auto update my system? Thanks. ---Chikn

Follow this guide HERE to install the shop channel update. You don't have to accept the user agreement and it will not install the new 3.4 menu.

Hmm...That is similar to, if not the same, guide I followed. I have the shop channel on my menu but when I click on it, or any other channel like weather or news, I get an error message that says I need to accept their usage agreement. I don't remember the exact error code off hand. I can play online without problems. I may have to re-install, but that doesn't seem to effect the other channels. Any Thoughts? ---Chikn

You can get the files HERE. Choose the version 2 bugfix.

Extract the file and drag both folders to apps folder on SD Card and run the applications in Homebrew Channel to install.

So I've done this twice and when I go to the shop channel it says I need to agree to the usage contract
Do I need to accept?

I thought this would just allow me to connect without having to accept their agreement?

I'm running 3.2U softmod

I never noticed it had the new user agreement. So why do you need any more clarification? You either excepet it or not.

I too am apprehensive to accept the new usage agreement. I would rather not have Nintendo able to update my console without my express consent. ---Chikn

Thanks for pointing that out, lol! It is very tempting though. I don't like not having full functionality of my gizmos. ---Chikn

The point of my question was do I need to accept it to use the shop channel with the new fix ie. is it part of the normal process?

My thought was that part of the fix was to eliminate the need to accept the new user agreement.
Everything installed okay according to the screen. I'll accept it if I need to as a part of the workaround process but not if it didn't install correctly.

That's the only clarification I need please
Thanks

The fix is actually patches the update so you can get to the Shop Channel but still have instillation of WAD/cIOS files. I thought when I did it I didn't think I had to accept the user agreement but I must have been wrong.

Thanks... your tone is much more cordial today then yesterday ;) or maybe I just took it the wrong way

I've searched around quite a bit and it seems that several people don't mention anything about having to accept the EULA.

When I got the Wii, I downgraded to 3.2U from 3.3U. I never updated it to 3.4U but I did set up the wifi before I did the princess hack. Several people state that they've had to do it several times in succession before it was working but mainly they are having network crashes which is why they keep having to update.

I have not had any network crashes and I need to verify that I'm running the latest HBC to eliminate that part. All the "guides" to do the shop channel hack aren't really spelled out in detail and the instructions don't say anything about having to accept the EULA so I'm thinking it's something on my end.

Thanks for the help though!

See my biggest problem is i hate using the wiigator loader and that to load my original games i paid for. if i downgrade i cant load them from the wii disc channel. If wii connect24 is turned off then will i have to worry about Nintendo automatically updating my counsel. I would assume in theory this works but there hasnt been an update yet since this auto update feature so i have no clue.

OK guys, here's the scoop. The User Agreement for the Shop Channel has NOTHING to do with firmware upgrades. It is simply an agreement for using the Shop Channel and all other channels inside (ie: Nintendo Channel). If you do not accept it, you can't access the Shop Channel at all. If you DO accept it, you're not hurting anything at all, you're just saying you will use it as intended. You also do not need Connect24 to use it as it goes through WiFi. Connect24 is ONLY for updates, the Weather and News channels, and posting messages/email with friends you have added to your address book. It is completely separate from the WiFi you use to play multiplayer online.

The automatic firmware updates come DO through Connect24 but they are ONLY AUTOMATIC if you have updated to 3.4. If you are on 3.3 or below, they will NOT be automatically pushed to you, hence why people are downgrading even if they aren't interested in using homebrew. I am one those people. As for original games having to be booted through WiiGator if you downgrade, that isn't entirely true. With a little research (against rules to post exactly where), you will find that the homebrew community has found a way to extract the necessary files from the new updates without sacrificing your old firmware and you can boot original games with original disc channel. I promise you, I do it everyday. It does involve using the homebrew channel though to install those partial updates.

Hope this helps straighten things out a bit for you.

When I click on the shop channel it says that I must exit and accept the wii connect user agreement. It says nothing about accepting a shop channel agreement. the agreement says nothing about which FW you are on, which I guess they will update to 3.4 automatically once accepted. as it is now when I go to the check connection screen it lets me know there is a system update available and asks if I want to update. I imagine if I accept the user agreement it would not ask but rather just update. I have a chip, don't use wiigator, and don't want to go through the trouble and risk of downgrading my FW if I upgrade to 3.4. I suppose we will get a clear answer on this when a new fw is released. ---Chikn

Like I said, the Wii Connect User agreement is NOT the same thing as the agreement to update your Wii automatically. It is completely different. I have accepted the Wii Connect agreement, but I did not accept the update to 3.4 so they will not and cannot update me automatically UNLESS I update to 3.4, but I can use all the features of my Wii. I can even leave Connect24 connected, but it gets annoying when they tell me there's an update every morning and I have to click no every morning, so I usually just shut Connect24 off at night.

The agreement to allow automatic updates is what you agree to when you accept the 3.4 update, NOT when you accept the Connect agreement.

Sorry, hit the enter key too soon!

Was going to tell you that the clear answer is that you CAN accept the Connect agreement with no problems on your 3.3 and use the shop channel. Just say NO to any update requests to 3.4. The auto updating STARTS at 3.4 and future. 3.3 and below will NOT be auto updated. This isn't supposition, this is fact.

This is an excerpt from the agreement I am asked to o.k. in order to access the Wii shop channel:

We may also upgrade, change, or terminate the Content or game software or may discontinue offering Products without notice to you.
