My Wii Downloads - Con or am I stupid?

OK. So I'm an idiot. I paid for a membership to 'My Wii Downloads' so that I could get games for my Christmas pressie. My Wii is NOT modded in any way and the sit claims that no mod is needed to play the games I download. I have downloaded a game, used winrar to extract the files and burned the file to DVD-R using ImgBurn. The disc is not recognised by my Wii and 'my Wii Downloads' support has not responded to any of my emails. I'm feeling ripped off but I will admit that I could be an idiot who has missed a step, but without support from the support team I am stuck. I have read about the twilight hack and wondered if I need to do this or buy a mod chip. Feel free to mock me for my stupidity!

I'm sorry but you have been scammed. Their game downloads section only links to common, freely available sites and their customer service is nonexistent.
All is not lost however. You can use the twilight hack to run your wii game backups without a modchip. So it sucks that you got scammed, but at least you dont need to pay any more for a modchip. Theres a softmodding guide here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325

It just really sucks how that/those asshole(s) mislead people in which they promise the world for a one-time fee of only $37 or whatever it is and then it turns out to be nothing more than a portal to torrent sites and some lame software!! And they make it sound so urgent too, like the website is going to just disappear or something if you don't sign up immediately..However, I have seen videos on YouTube of people swearing by these types of websites and saying its the best thing since sliced bread. So maybe it works for them...Whatever...I know they have similar sites for all the other consoles out there as well.
You might as well make the most of it by getting your fill of games and such, and while your downloading look into softmodding that wii of yours so then you can actually play the games as advertised in the extra small print on the wii downloads website...As far as getting your money refunded, I wouldn't hold your breath-Even if you paid by credit card or paypal-the process of disputing the charges for stuff like that is a nightmare..Your best bet is to just chalk that one up to 'lesson learned' and next time you run into something that sounds too good to be true-then it is..

Thanks Guys,
I pretty much thought that was the case and will put it all down to experience. If nothing else I have learned about the hacks etc. in this forum so I will get it all figured out eventually (without parting with more cash!). At least I won't waste time and effort trying to have success with 'My Wii Downloads'.

I was thinking about signing up also. Their website seems pretty legit. Did they actually give you special software, or is it just shareware. I was also wondering if they just link you to torrent files, or you download directly from them. Maybe you are doing everything right you are just using the wrong media. Maybe you're supposed to use DVD+R instead of DVD-R.

It really is just links to free shareware and freely available torrent sites. Thats it. Its pretty sad how many people are falling for the scam, but like you said it probably has alot to do with their website looking very professional. That and the simple fact that there are alot of suckers out there.

The website does look good with lots of promises but it delivers nothing except links to sites (i.e. torrentz.com) that you can go to for free. There is enough information (if you take the time) on this forum, to do everything you want to. Please don't part with your money to this or similar websites. Take the advice people give at Afterdawn to mod your Wii etc. without being scammed.

I too admit I have been scammed then I found this (I know I should have looked before) but i have come across a bit of a problem. I finished the installing the rebooted my wii and it now says that the system files have been corrupted and I cant do anything.
Please help!!

earlz, start your own thread about the problem as hijacking another member's thread especially an off topic post is a forum rule no no. after doing a search, i see you already have a thread on that problem so keep all posts pertaining to that problem there.

Oh hi
I also stupidly fell for this scam and was very disappointed. Felt like a complete idiot in fact.
I'm feeling alot better now after successfully claiming my money back from Plimus.com who handle the payments for "my wii downloads".
It was really easy and I got a refund within the week.
You should have had an email from them when you joined and if you click through to their site you will find a form to claim your money back if you're not satisfied (which I can't imagine anyone being)

Funny, if you find the program didn't work for you. You do not need a mod chip to play the game. Just replace your IOSXX (depend on your version) with the latest IOS version that is available at My Wii Downloads. You probably didn't follow the instruction carefully, didn't you? If you have got your refund in full, you shouldn't call this program a scam. I am quite happy with MyWiiDownload I have no idea why some think it is scam?

Because you don't have to pay to find the info on how to mod your Wii. You can find it all here or using google.

Hi, I cant actually call this site a scam, because i honestly just do not know how to use it. If it works and there is someone who knows how to walk me through it I would love to use it. But since I cant find a phone number to talk to someone, or the moneyback form, I am a little upset. If someone can walk me through the process or show me the money back form I would appreciate it.
