SDL mame .125 Multiplayer problems

Hi, I successfully got mame .125 running on my wii. Most games load fine, but whenever I try to add a 2nd 3rd or 4th controller it never registers it. I just want to play with other people than by myself.
I soft-modded my wii and am running on 3.2u with Homebrew channel 1.01
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
