Hey all. I have been reading this forum for about an hour and I am getting a little tired so I will ask my question about my Wii problem. I apologize in advance if this was answered previously.

First, my Wii mod. It is a Wiikey ver 1. Last year it was modified and the games worked awesome. From time to tome, the games will not worked and all I did is reset the Wii and put the game in. I also found that sometimes when starting w/ the Wii w/ a burnt game, the Wii did not like it. I started with an original game for a few minutes and then inserted a burnt copy and it worked. I left for 6 months and when I came back I burnt some more games. Now what i did is semi-bricked my Wii for not being aware of what I did. Thru the forums, I managed to unbrick it and update my Wiikey and also performed a Wii update, which I am running on 3.4U as of now.

The problem no is that the when I put a Wii games in, the Wii menu reads it no problem. I start the game and sometimes it goes further than other times, but after a few minutes it says it "cannot read the disc, check your operator manual for instructions", it does it on all my disks.

What is weird is that 2 days ago, I played Guitar Hero 4 no problem, I tried it again, and it gave me the read error message.

My questions are: If the Wii reads the disk at first, does that mean that the Wiikey is working correctly?

I am also burning on a generic brand of DVD. I know people will say that I should use a specific brand, and that after a while the disk will corrupt. It was working before with the same exact set-up, why does it have problem to read the disk now. Especially if it reads it and then will stop working at a certain spot after a few minutes, never to the same spot, meaning sometimes I will get as far as the game menu and sometimes I will even start playing the game.

I am thinking that my laser might have got weaken.

By the way, I can play original games without a glitch.

If someone will be nice enough to read this and maybe guide me toward the right direction, it will be appreciated. I will try the Verbatim disk to see if it resolve my problem. I am also using wiiblocker to burn games now.

Thx.

If the Wii detects your disk, the Wiikey is working.

Cheap writable DVDs have dye which breaks down more quickly over time.

Pressed DVDs and burns made to quality disks do not suffer from this problem, although even quality DVDs may suffer from this issue over time.

Thx for the reply Dailun. I tried another DVD with IMGBRN this time and guess what, it works. I am buying some Verbatim DVD-R tomorrow and going with that.

Again thx for the help.
