as far as i know from 1.5 to 1.51 there is no need for any sort of serial connections just sata and xbox power

old firmware is read over sata ,key extracted ,new firmware made and written back over sata

my advice would be DOS

you dont need a max232 since you have 1.5 already installed (am i right?)
but for the record its used to read the drive's key over a serial interface

DOS is the oldest operating system in this damn world!!
i would suggest you find ur guide to updating to 1.51 through the information that accompanies the 1.51 update

cheers :)

Instead of the max device...I am getting ready to go buy the parts to build this...everything else looks fairly straight forward.

http://beta.ivancover.com.nyud.net:8080/...rs232_build.png

go there
its max3232 or max 232
3232 = 3v input
232 = 5v input
thats the only difference, go buy it from a local shop it costs nothing and will save u time
