Hi,
I recently got my Wii to play DVDs, but when I do so, I get black bars on the side. Is there any widescreen support for the DVD player?

The wii makes a very poor DVD player. The drive was not designed to support DVD movies, and trying to make it do so will burn it out FAR faster than playing games.

An upscaling DVD player costs less than $25. Buy one of them and save your wii's DVD drive.

I was just wondering how it would kill the drive
the laser dosn't touch the disk, so i don't understand how playing DVDs would wear the drive down

Playing DVDs requires the laser to be in a constant ON state.

Increasing the duty cycle of the laser shortens the life of the laser.

I haven't seen upscaling for $25.00 yet, but my last 2 progressive scan were $39.00 (name brand) and my upscaling was $49.00 (name brand).
