Hi ppl,
I recently acquired my little sister's psp 2000 (silver slim) and it has this issue where there are vertical lines on the entire screen. Everything is still playable but it's a real eye sore. I've opened the psp, disconnected the fat video ribbon cable, cleaned it with alcohol and a qtip, reset it back in place and turned the psp back on but the vertical lines are still there.

Does the screen itself need to be replaced or what?

If you've done that much to the screen and that didn't work, replace the screen! You have what's called screen damage or missing pixles

Before you go out and spend the money on a new replacement LCD screen... check the big contact where the LCD screen plugs into on the motherboard. I have the exact same problem with my Silver Slim PSP 2001 model and I ordered a new screen. After replacing the screen (old one had been sat on and screen was cracked) I had vertical blue lines going thru everything. Sometimes they were black depending on if I turned it off or on.. but always in the same places. I quickly emailed the company I bought the screen from thinking they had sent me a defective screen. I forgot that I had another Slim PSP 2001 model that also had a cracked screen so I swapped it in there and the newly purchased screen worked perfectly. I swapped it back into the silver PSP and same thing - vertical scan lines. I did a search on the web and found there were other posts with the same problems but no 100% fix or how to fix scan noise. Most pointed to the motherboard which is essentially buying a brand new PSP. I just wanted to put this out there and try to save some folks some money buying a new replacement LCD screen when the real problem prolly lies with the PSP motherboard and the scan noise.
