OK. so i dont have internet connection for xbox. But i want to play my vids on it, when i try to play them it requires a media update, which in turn needs the internet.
Does anyone know of a site that allows me to download the update from work or something and return home and install it off my flash. Like NXE
if you have the new dash, NXE, then i believe that there still isnt a downloadable codec thing that you can install to your harddrive. however, if you have the original dash still, then its possible, you have to download the codec/media update, and manually install it to your hard drive via your computer.

Well i have one AVI that the downloaded codecswouldn't play correctly despite the 360 going off to download a codec. The old type xboxes and various pc's play it correctly so i haven't bothered using the 360 for playing movie files, not impressed so far.

After updating to the fall update 08 via Xbox Live, in order to play DivX/XviD video files a new DivX addon is required to be install via Xbox Live.
Included in this archive is the DivX media addon. Useful for those without Internet or banned console.
Connect the 360 harddrive to the computer using one of the many 360 harddrive adapters out there (Team Xecuter's Connectivity Kit, Talismoon 360 MiniSpy SATA adapter, or XCM 360 SATA adapter)
Open Xplorer360 and select 'Open Harddrive/Memorycard' and put the file in the same hierarchical folder structure as the one included in the archive. Create necessary folders.
Close Xplorer360 and power down the computer, and reconnect the harddrive to the 360. Make sure the dashboard version is 6683 and try to open a DivX/XviD file. It should play nicely if it's supported (AVIcontainer with DivX/XviD video and MP3/AC3 audio) and if the media addon is located in the proper folder.
There is another way also but you will atleast have to get it to live one time.You delete your old media update,then create a dummy account then try to play a divx with the disk in it will ask you to connect for the update doit,then after it complete's you will have it there for offline use.I did this optin after the NXE and it works.
