Extracting .bin from IX15.bin and DUMMY.BIN :)

Hi guys,
I finally bought a x360 60 gb. I read loads of posts about it before but im looking for a simple answer to this question. What can I do with it except playing backups. Can it run homebrew (not sure about this one) or can I install an OS in it?
Im supposed to get it flashed tonight with Ixtreme 1.5.
I also want to know if there is a "not to do list" (such as updates).

No and no.
Do not play backups that are not stealth-patched if you want to play on Live. Do not use cheap media like Memorex. Do not move the 360 around while it is running. Do not leave your 360 in a tight space. Do not do any updates from Microsoft until you read that it is safe to do so.
You CAN do updates from game discs.

Thanks for your prompt answer. Yes ndarkness, I read it before you replied and I patched-stealth a game already :)
I have another question though. The guy who flashed my console didnt give me the Liteon drive key. but he gave me a copy of the hacked firmware he made based on my key. is there a way to get the key from these files IX15.BIN and DUMMY.BIN? Thanks in advance

hrmmm ... well he really should have given you the files... cause you need more than just the key theres also the inquiry.bin and the identify.bin...
i would contact the guy to see if he has them for your drive... maybe he wants you to come back to him whenever there's an iXtreme update so you have to pay more $$$

That's what I suspected. Am I obliged again to go through all the soldering hustle (or buy the extracting hardware) if I want to extract it myself now that my FW is hacked?

I called the guy, he said that he deletes all the files once the console is hacked succssfully.

he shouldnt be deleting files, and it sounds like you have a smart head on your shoulders, you shouldve flashed your own drive and saved the $. then take his business away.

im bad at soldering, and I cannot make online purchases to get the solderless extractor (country regulations). I prefered giving the business to someone than risk to mess up my 0 day old xbox.
I know I should have checked the file when I was with him, now the pb is there so I need to find a way to fix it! Im good at computers and stuff, Im just not good at soldering.

well really i would just enjoy your xbox ... its flashed and working so have fun with it.
there might not even be another iXtreme anytime soon... could be months or years. or days =)
anyways hang onto those dummy.bin and whatnot who knows maybe there is a way to extract the relevant information but i don't have any clue how.

My last question on my situation. Can I still retrieve my bin files from the drive now that it got flashed with ix1.5? Another question, supposed that the hacked firmware got erased from my drive (for some odd reason), can I flash it with the ix15.bin and dummy.bin that I have?

i was getting outta bed today and i thought up a possible solution to this . .. .
using a HEX editor ... load the dummy.bin file. i used WinHex
KEY.BIN ::
jump to offset A030 in the dummy.bin file
select the next 16 bytes.. the bottom right on the statusbar of winhex reports the length you've selected in hexedecimal which for 16 bytes would be "10"
INQUIRY.BIN ::
jump to offset 2E00
select the next 96 bytes.. the bottom right on the statusbar of winhex reports the length you've selected in hexedecimal which for 96 bytes would be "60"
for each of those select the bytes and copy them into a new file...
the identify.bin is a bit harder... its 512 bytes and there is no hex match from my dummy.bin file... i can see where fragments of the identify.bin data are used in the dummy.bin file, but there is no section with a complete 512 byte match.
let me know if you used my idea to get your key.bin and inquiry.bin and maybe myself or someone else on this forum will think up a way for the identify.bin

why is all this needed? cant he just get the key using the same process that is used to flash the drive? as in just read the key from the drive itself. from what i understand when u flash a 360 it reads the drive key and then inserts said key into the new Fw, correct? if so cant the key be retrived from the flashed fw that is currently on the drive?
cause if this wasnt the case then wouldnt we have to flash our units back to the orig fw before updated to newer? as in going from 1.41 to 1.5 on a sammy?
I understand the ways of getting the key and flashing are different for a liteon compared to a sammy but it still accomplishes the samething by getting key from orig and then inserting to ix fw?
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

BTW, i figured you weren't around anymore ... so i didn't follow up on this ...
but i believe there is a shortcut... ignore all the stuff i wrote before... i think you can just load the dummy.bin right into the jungleflasher utility ... i *think* this will give you the proper information to create a hacked firmware..

i believe so... on a whim i loaded my own dummy.bin file into jungleflasher to see what would happen.. using the "Load f/w Image" option...
when i did it has the correct vendor, model, revision, DVD key, and OSIG...
so it seems to have everything you need to generate a new custom firmware... try it yourself and see what happens.
