Hi i am having burn consistency issues with my current burner and the DL verbatim (4x) burned at 2.4x

I have a liteon 20a4h IDE/ATA version

I am looking at getting a 2nd burner for xbox backup - just burning not extracting

I have read a few posts and pioneer and sony/nec seem to be what people are leaning to

any recommendations on a model

i will likely get a regular ide version

I have a LG DL DVD burner that works perfectly for burning and extracting 360 backups.

Here is that drive name from Device Manager: 
HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H54N ATA
Also, I would only recommend burning discs at the rate that they are compatible with for best results.

I burn 4x-8x DL discs at 4x only and have made only 1 coaster before knowing I needed set the layer break to 1913760.

I used to set the burn speed to 2.4x but if you notice the ImgBurn logs and burn status you'll see it's burning at 4x the slowest the disc supports.

Basically any DL DVD Burner with updated FW should be okay.

I would recommend using a newer type drive and a machine with plenty of RAM and CPU power as they seem to be able to handle a Dual Layer burn more efficiently.

any recommendations on DL +R media?

verbatim is what i have seen
is there any other type that i can use

i have read that only a certain type of verbatim is good made in malaysia?

Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are the best and are what is recommended.

The MIS (Made in Singapore) versions are most compatible and are of a higher quality.

Try to stick with those.

Other than that Sony and Memorex DVD+R DL are semi-compatible and cheap but will cause your 360 laser to fail earlier and shorten its life span.
