Hi. I got my wii modded a year ago and have been burning games, using nero, 4x, on Verbatim dvd-r and haven't had any problems at all. My cousin just took his wii to the same shop to get it modded and some of my games work on his and some don't.
The game that the shop gave him DOES work, so the shop owner told me that differnet wii's get different chips and that my burning method is the problem. (The shop owner is not much help so far... prob 'cause he would rather me buy back-ups from him). So now I tried burning one of the games using Imgburn at 1x, 2x and 4x (so far) and I'm still getting the same error msg.
Our wii's are NTSC, but I don't know what mod chips are in them.
My question is: Do I need to find out what mod chips were used in each of the wii's to solve my problem? Or do I just have to find a certain methodology that works for burning .iso's for his wii (and whatever chip he may have in there)?
Oh yeah.. his has the new 3.4 update and mine does not. Could that be the problem?
Does anyone know what I can do to make all the games work on is as well? Thanks.
Well first of all, what games are you trying to get to play? You mentioned your cousin's Wii has 3.4 firmware...that could be a problem since 3.4 doesn't allow trucha signed games, google it to find out more info. If you know how to update the chip's firmware...you should probably go ahead and do it. Btw, What is the exact error message that displays on your screen when you try to load the game?
An easy way to see if it is Trucha Signed disc issue is to boot the games via Gecko OS. This is an application you boot via Homebrew channel and should bypass any trucha signed issues that may be causing the problem.
I suspect this is the issue. If he can play the backup the installer gave him then the Modchip is installed properly. But also keep in mind there is always a possibility that the media you use in your Wii might not work in his. Wii systems can be picky and what works for you might not work for him. But you should first see if it is a trucha signed disc issue by booting them via gecko OS.
Now that I've gone thru it systematically, it's just 5 different versions of GH3 that don't work. I have googled it, and are apparently GH3 is a "trucha signed" games of which you speak?
My error msg is:
"An error has occurred. Press the ejst button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
I only went thru a hand full more and they all seem to work fine, except for Mario Strikers Charged which is asking me to perform a system update (even though I already updated my cousin's Wii to 3.4)
It asks for the same thing in mine, but I'm still at 3.2. (I didn't update either... should I?)
I guess I'll try to figure out this Gecko OS and see if it works... Or is it easier (or even possible) to downgrade my cousin's wii to 3.2 or something that the trucha won't affect?
Thanks so much for your responses.
GH3 is one of the more common games to see trucha-signed as people are fond of sticking the tracks from the previous games into it.
Is the Mario Strikers game you're using an NTSC game or PAL? If its PAL and you're running it on an NTSCwii it will ask to run the update even if you're fully updated. You can either brickblock the ISO before burning it, boot it through gecko os on the homebrew channel, or, only so long as you're updated past whatever firmware version it has on it, just let it update. It will give duplicate channels but will not overwrite a later firmware.
And it is possible to downgrade, but its far easier to just boot the game through gecko. Much less chance of damaging the wii as well.
