If you cant find the answer to this one you really arent looking very well. This is asked about 3 - 4 times a week.

Anyway: NO UPDATE TO DATE HAS EVER EFFECTED THE FUNCTION OF MODCHIPS. Some of the newer updates have hurt homebrew to an extent, but never have they effected the ability of a chipped console to play unedited backups of games. The warning about breaking modded consoles is just there to scare you.

If you have update 3.1_ or 3.2_ there is no need to update as the new updates don't really add anything and are mostly there to circumvent peoples mods. If you are using backups that require updates, as so many do now, just strip the updates from your backup with Wiizle Diizle Shizzle v1.3 or block them with your modchip which yours is capable of doing.

If you have lots of Homebrews and don't want to screw around you don't want to update to 3.3_ or higher.

so does that mean....um...well.....I have a wiikey v1 chip, yes, it's modded. I try to go to the wii shop thingy and every time I do it says I need to do a wii system update. Is it safe to do since I have a modded wii and will doing it cause me to lose the ability to play back ups?

Hi with the wikkey v1 after certain updates you will get black screen with error message saying illeagle hardwear detected but not if you update firmware of your chip, so if your chip is running latest 1.9x then cool just run update, but if it ever does get to be prob as it may well do as support for wiikey v1 may dissapear with advent in october of the wiikey v2 i recomend the wasp, easy to bang in with 5 wires and runs flawless on your type chipset.
hope this helps and is 100% accurate
