Hi Guys,

I am looking to 'build' a custom PC for myself. Well actually ... Dell will build it but I choose the parts and I just want to know if the specs are good enough for my needs. (Price not great of an issue but a little cheaper would be better - if it can be done!).

Usage of PC:

- I use Torrent Sites
- Use Nero and ConvertX2DVD (practically all day on somedays)
- Use Photoshop and video editing
- Internet, msn and other general tasks like office etc.
- A few games
- MAIN - Use it for watching movies (avis, mkv, h.264 files) (My current laptop cannot play h.264 files with ease, i want something that will play it as second nature)
- USe to store my media library - currently about 400GB (on external 1TB)
- Would want to store, play and burn blueray files in the future

The Specs that I have chosen atm are from Dells website. And the Dell Studio XPS (not put the price on).

My System CHoice:

PROCESSOR Intel® Core? i7 Processor 920 (2.66GHz, 8MB cache, 4.8GT/sec)

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 64Bit - English

HARDWARE SUPPORT 4Yr XPS Premium Warranty Support - Priority Call In and Onsite Support

MICROSOFT APPLICATION SOFTWARE Microsoft® Works 9 - English

MONITOR 21.5in S2209W Full HD Widescreen Black UK/Irish (1920 x 1080)

MEMORY 4096MB (4x1024) 1067MHz DDR3 Tri Channel

HARD DRIVE 640GB Serial ATA (7200RPM) Hard Drive

GRAPHICS CARD 512MB ATI® Radeon® 4850 Graphics card

OPTICAL DRIVE 6X Blu-Ray Burner Drive (BluRay, DVD & CD read and write) and 16X DVD+/- RW Drive

KEYBOARD Dell Multimedia USB Keyboard Black - UK

MOUSE Dell Laser Mouse USB (6 buttons scroll) Black

SOUND SOFTWARE Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital Audio

SPEAKERS No Speakers (Speakers are required to hear audio from your system)

FLOPPY/MEDIA DRIVES 19-in-1 Media Card Reader

Price for the above system (incl VAT)

£1,258.23

Bit pricey ... but is it worth it? Can I reduce something to make price a bit lower?

Was thinking around £1000 - £1100.

Preparation is the Key to Success

£1250 for a PC with an HD4850 in it. Interesting, it's not bad for gaming, but it won't be able to play every game out there for years to come. Overall it'll be a fast, reliable PC though, and it will excel at video editing.
