after weeks of confusion (and tears) may i offer these limited tips for my fellow newbies.......
1)download dvdshrink............it's free!!!!!
2)download dvddycryptor.........it's free!!!!!
3)buy nero 6....................it's worth the price.

use dvdshrink to analyze the source disk first as this will allow you to deselect any extra's/menu's/subtitle files you may not require and hence allow best quality result. shrink will then automatically use nero to burn the dvd.

if shrink wont read the original due to copyprotected reasons then use dvddycrypter to create an image on your hdd (will need at least 12gb free space to be on safe side) then use shrink in the normal way but point it to this image file first instead of your dvd drive, edit in reauthor in what evr way suits your needs then burn away to your little hearts desire.

all this seems to cover every problem i have had (exept crap media of course).

hope this may save you some of the hassle i have had.......good luck!!!!

cheers for the pointer. However, i'm a new new newbie mate, i haven't got a clue! What do you mean by image file? I'll tell you what's in the UNDERWORLD/VIDEO_TS folder: 7 VOB files all around the 1 gb size and one IFO file which is 94 KB. DVD Shrink just keeps coming up with an error message saying it can't locate the IFO file. What the Deauce? this is so complicated.

If you are using DVD Decrypter and are buying Nero 6 you might as well use Nero Recode instead of Shrink.

Hiya viper6699,

Just a quick "heads-up" for ya,

Average LARGE film on original DVD is 7 Gig
Average compressed film via Shrink is 4.3 Gig

7.0 Gig + 4.3 Gig == 11.3 Gig

Suggested free space figure to avoid SERIOUS SLOWDOWN would be > 12 Gig.

ScubaPete: you should have picked that one up too..

Have Fun...

Life is just more of the same:
