sorry guys, been out of the loop lately, haven't read the thread for a long time. so okay, i've been reading around and it seems to me that any firmware upgrade 3.3 or 3.4 will mess up the hbc. ive got hbc with a 3.0 firmware. so im asking how to 1) play games carrying the 3.3/3.4 firmware? is it possible without upgrading to 3.3/3.4 using hbc? 2) how to find out the region of backed up games. already burnt to a dvd. 3) what firmware does cooking mama world kitchen, mario karts and ssbb carry? thanks guys, hope you guys are able to help me.

I'm not sure where you read that but new firmwares do NOT mess up the homebrew channel. What the new firmwares did was block the wad installer and prevent the installation of cIOS (or custom firmware patches) But that has been fixed. Its perfectly fine to update with the homebrew channel, you'll just have to install IOS16 via the wad manager (which is still allowed even on 3.4) and everything will function fine again.

To find the region of a game you'll have to rip the disk back to an iso (use imgburn on read mode. No special drive needed if you're ripping from a backup) and load the iso with brickblocker. That should give you the region.

And I dont know about cooking mama, but SSBB has firmware 3.1 and mario kart has 3.2
