This has to be the most frustrating thing ever !!!!!

Trying to find out why I have huge gaps at the start of a Mp3 & then again between tracks

Hard wired my PS3 direct (no router) to PC via cross over cable. Buffering of a MP3 took about 2 to 3 seconds (fwd search there was no buffering at all) ..... not perfect but could live with that (my Xbox360 was instant though ...no buffering , no gaps !!)

So take PC back upstairs, reconnect Netgear DG834G router to PC, connect HOMEPLUGS to PC & PS3....reconfigure PS3 settings...result - around 20 seconds to buffer & play a MP3 & the same between tracks & guess what ?...xbox still streaming straight away with no gaps, no buffering at all.

Disconnected homeplugs & reconfigured to WIRELESS & get results of around 8 seconds ??!! (cant test xbox as I have no adaptor but I guess result would be no buffereing). So wireless is now faster than the wired

This is rididulous...I don't much much - I just want to stream my MP3 with no buffering.

I have used all media servers available...all producing same results. All secuity is turned off (router & PC) & i have nothing running in the background.

Reading various posts, I see that the PS3 has a problem BUT HOW CAN THE RESULTS FOR WIRED BE WORSE THAN WIRELESS. This is so frustrating when I can see Xbox running like a dream

Is this router or PS3 issue ?? Can anyone offer any advise ?

Cheers

Rather odd, whats your computer's specs and what program are you using to stream things with?

My setup is computer is wirelessly connected to the router (wireless N) and the router is wired to the ps3 over a gigabit connection using cat6 cables. I use tversity media server and for mp3's im looking at only about 1-2 seconds for the mp3 to start on the ps3 after it's selected and once its going its fine to fast forward or rewind it. My pc is a P4 3.0ghz with 1gb of ram.

I suspect it would likely be the media server your using in combination with the ps3 somehow.

Sounds exactly the results I was getting when I was connected direct from PC to PS3.

I have tried WMP, Tversity, Nero & one other (downloaded from a googleblog address?) & all give me same results.

I am using DMZ on the router (dunno if this makes a difference when streaming wired). If the PS3 is OK when hard wired via crossover then I gotta suspect this is the router that is causing the issue. I have a fairly good spec PC (dual core with 2gb ram)

Any ideas on other settings that may effect it ?

It's the crossover cable. They are only to be used in specific cases and if you are using a router that is NOT one of them. Give that a try and I am sure that will fix it. Also is your router 10/100 or a gigabit model? Good Luck.
