Are you sure that your DVD burner can burn dual layer disks? Because its crashing when trying to burn the second layer.

Yeah, here on the front of the (sony) burner it says:
"Dual RW DVD

I/O device error when trying to use your CD or DVD drive
Question:

When trying to install software using my DVD-Drive, I insert the disk in to the drive and it just spins and does nothing else. I then get an error message:

"Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed."

What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Answer:

The error message is caused from Windows trying to use a transfer mode that your CD/DVD drive cannot recognize.

A more common error message that is seen when this issue arises is:

"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

However, both error messages yield the same solution.

To resolve this issue, you will need to change the transfer mode in your IDE channel properties. Here's how:
Go to Start
Right click My Computer
Select Manage from the resulting menu
In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager
In the right pane, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Identify your CD/DVD drive in the expanded menu and right click the appropriate drive
Select Properties
In the Properties windows, click the Advanced Settings tab
In the Transfer Mode box that represents your CD/DVD drive (typically Device 1), open the drop down menu and select PIO Only
Click OK and exit all windows.
If this does not resolve your issue, then you will need to go back using the above procedure and change the Device 1 in step #9 back to "DMA if available". Then, change Device 0 to "PIO Only" in the Transfer Mode box.

Device 0: Primary IDE Channel
Device 1: Secondary IDE Channel

Are you sure this works?
I already wasted two DL.
1: I didn't select the 2,4x speed so I canceled it.
2: this one.

Update your firmware - you are a bit behind - 1.0f.

What media are you using? Like Verbatim +R DL 4x

Do not put the drive in PIO mode - this is an older slooow transfer rate that can end up causing even more problems.

You just uninstall the ide channel(s) then reboot.
Use this guide to check the transfer mode and get it back in DMA mode.
Link.

Do the firmware update and see if that helps - it doesn't list what improvements or additional media it is supporting but still keep the firmware up to date.
If that doesn't do it then use Verbatim 4x or under for dual layer on this drive. It's a bit older and may not handle the newer 6x & up rated dual layer media even with the firmware update.

edit: clarify last sentance

The layer break isnt necessary, but doesn't usually cause problems. You can try without it though.

I think it's a combo of the burner and brand of dvd. It's a somewhat older burner trying to burn to newer dual layer media. Verbatim rated under 4x or under are probably tour best bet.

Try it w/o the layer break if you like. Do a test burn instead - click on test - if it fails then you won't have wasted another disc.

I didn't know there were such thing as a test burn, so everytime I use test burn it won't really burn and I won't have to waste one if it failes?

Yep you got it - it just simulates a burn. It doesn't always guarantee when you uncheck it it will be a success but with the problems you are having I'd use it.
It's right under destination to the left of the verify option.
I'd uncheck that also - even if it has some verification errors it doesn't always mean that the disc won't play.

edit: I got my left and right confused - typical of us girls :)

...

"Test mode isn't supported by the current media (DVD+R DL)
The data WILL actaully be written on this disc"

should I burn with nero?

I did not know that - learn something new every day!

You can try Nero but I think it will still fail - it's an issue with the media and your drive. You might get lucky though.

Does the drive burn single layer fine?

I was just checking to make sure single layer still worked - just another confirmation that more than likely this dual layer media isn't right for your burner.

There is a single layer version SSBB floating around somewhere - or at least there was - that or there was instructions on how to only burn this to a single layer (no menus or videos etc). penguin98 would probably be of better help on this option.

Open IMGBURN, select to write iso to DVD, select DVD9, click in TOOLS, SETTINGS->Write->Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960. Burn the DVD.
Where can I select that?

Pick write image file to disc when you open ImgBurn then go to tools etc.
But I still do not think this will solve your problem. Your drive can not handle the media you are using.
