Hi there i purchased gta4 for my xbox when playing it first time it loaded and i started to play the game then i decided to lye my xbox from verticle to horrizontal. The disk got a massive scratch all the way around the disk. i turned the console off straight away and took out the disk i then went and purchased another copy of gta4 but it loaded up then said clean dist error from the right, i took it to the shop got a replacement and that too said the same error message. but it cant be the disk as they are brand new any other ideas after the scratch it wont load past the start credits. first time i actually got to play. Please help

have you tried playing both discs on a friends 360? then you'll know if it's your 360 or the discs.

also... did you really pay 130$ for gtaIV?

the laser is probably dirty from the contact with the disc that got scratched or it is damaged and might not work again.

if your system has warranty and is not voided by modding or whatever i would call ms and see if they will fix it. just dont tell them it got scratched by you moving it while the disc was in and turned on. i would just tell them u were playing and suddenly u heard a loud noise and ur 360 started messing up and wont play any games now. tell them ur disc got scratched bad and wont play and maybe they will replace it for you cause they had a list of certian games they would replace if this happened to them, but it was a short list. but if u already took it back to store and dont have the sracthed disc this isnt an option.
if u cant send to MS then you can try getting a can of air and blowing it in the drive to clear and debri from the lens but that is risky and might or might not work. What i would do is take it apart and remove the dvd drive. take the cover off the drive and see if the lens is just dirty or if it has visible damage. if it is dirty then just clean it as gently as possible being carefull not to scratch the lens yourself and not to touch with ur fingers/skin cause it can smear oil from ur skin and make the lens dirty. if it is visibly damage and u dont have warranty the drive will have to be replaced and that requires buying a new drive of same type usually and flashing it with the old drives firmware key.

or if u just bought the console from walmart or something try to return it for a replacement. but dont tell anyone u caused this by moving the system, just say it happened and u are pissed lol

not the lazer as all my other games work fine but i have a folder on the dashboard with the 50 achievements but i cant delete it any ideas how to get rid of. I love the GTA series and want to play again.

if you really think it's the achivements that is making it not work... try creating a new silver account that will have no game saves or achievements on it... load up gta and see if that works.

highly doubt it though.

yea that is weird and i doubt the achievements have anything to do with the game not working. unless u have been mesing with the files on the HDD like ur other thread makes it sound. in that case there is no telling what u have messed up.

u can always take the hdd off the 360 and see if it plays, if it doesnt play with the hdd off then something is wrong with ur 360 or ur new copy of gta...

but good job on making multiple threads on the same issue but making them sound completely different

no they are two different threads i have not touched the hard drive that came with it i have installed an external hard drive and i wanted to know if it was possible to copy content ie music video etc to the orig HD i have not soft or hard modded it this thread is only for the game problem.

like i said before remove the hdd and see if GTA4 will play if it does then its something wrong with ur hdd. if it doesnt play then ur console doesnt like GTA. maybe u can try empty the cache on the hdd and see if it works after that, i cant remember process for empty cache but u can find it easily

Did you try installing it on the Hard Drive and playing it from there? About all I can come up with...
