Hey guys,im fixing a 360 for a friend and ive done the xclamp mod and now all thats left is the drive.
Its a ms28 that wont open when the metal enclosure is on it and when its off it works but as soon as the tray goes in it ejects unless you press on the bottom portion.
We have my old hitachi drive 0078fk which works perfect and we want to use that on it, But when I go into iprep and hit "R" to read the firmware chip it says "unknown flash chip"
Can someone here at my dear dear afterdawn help me out?

iprep is not for hitachi drives. is only for samsung, benq and lite-on. what you want to do, is run iprep and get the firmware(if you haven't already. you will want to download, firmware toolbox 4.8, download slax 2.1. now run slax 2.1 and get drive into mode b(if you do not know, there are many tutorials on here), open firmware toolbox(please note, vista users, the first time you run firmware toolbox, you need to right click the .exe file and select "run as administrator"), and read the firmware, save it, always good to make multiple copies just in case. now open samsung firmware in toolbox, should be called sam-ofw.bin(original), and sam-cfw.bin(hacked), doesn;t matter as both firmwares have same drive key. you are going to highlight the drive key, right click copy, and now open hitachi firmware and and paste the drive key into that drive key and select "replace". now you have to spoof hitachi as ms28(tools, spoof firmware select ms28. then flash back.and your all done.

other way around I want to take out ms28 and put in the hitachi.
but that did clarify some things thanks

i believe you have to power cycle the drive really quick to return the correct status, then you can read and write, 0x70 for samsung

read the ms28 and get the key from it, and flash that key to your new hitachi drive. i think you will have to flash the hitachi drive with firmware tool box, and spoof it as an ms28 so the 360 thinks that its the original drive.

if you actually read what i wrote, the instructions were for putting the hitachi in replace of the samsung. i am assuming you have the firmware for the ms28. if not the use iprep to get the samsung firwamre. then load into windows with the hitachi, then insert usb stick into port, then goto "backup" folder and the firmware will be in the folder, for whatever serial number you used when getting firmware. if you need any help, just ask, but there are tons of tuts on here. by vcc method you mean the "the wire trick" if so, it will not work on 78, can only use slax 2.1(more compatibility" or a connectivity kit.

Alright lemme clear this up.
Im trying to get the firmware out of the samsung with the vcc method or Wire trick. Ive tryed tuts from 2006 to present even using older versions of programs, it just wont work and idk why

you need to get a via 6421 pci sata card. you can get one off ebay for like 10-15 bucks. if your in the u.s. goto microcentre, i know they carry them because my cousin got his there. if you get that you will not have trouble flashing, that card is the most compatible, and you can do all xbox drives with it. as soon as you get that, i will walk you though the entire way.
