I recently bought NBA 09 and was using custom firmware 3.80 m33. There was an update on the game that i needed in order ro play it. I updated and now it says that I have plain old official 4.05 sony firmware. None of my homebrews work and I don't know how to update back to custom firmware without using a mms and a pandora battery. I have no idea what to do and it would help a lot if anyone could help me.

You answered your own question - you need to use a mms and pandora battery now to get cfw back.
BTW 3.80 m33 & above you can use the network update to update custom firmware.

Right now I have 4.05 sony official firmware. And youre saying that if i use the System update my firmware will go back to custom firmware? Or no?

No - when I referenced 3.80m33 I was referencing when you have at least cfw 3.80 you can run the network update to update it. If you run it now it will update ofw only.
Your only way back to cfw is by using your mms and pandora battery.
