Update: It?s been confirmed: Firmware 5.03 indeed patches the GripShift save game exploit.
Sony has officially released PSP firmware 5.03. Now there isn?t much detail at this time; however, if you?re a PSP-3000 owner holding on tight to your GripShift UMD, I?d recommend not updating, not yet anyway?
According to Eric Lempel, ?this is a small update that improves system software stability during use of some features.?? Yeah, I bet.

Is it because he has a Slim? Would it make a difference if it was a fat psp?

obviously was an older slim or phat psp since they just used pandora and mms to downgrade it.
this thread is for those with the new psp 3000s wanting to play homebrew through the gripshift/sparta exploit so if that's the case don't upgrade to 5.03 and you can find the homebrews for psp 3000 here http://pspupdates.qj.net/tags/Exploit/4280

Haha, i haven't been here for a while, so whatever happened to all the people that knew not to upgrade to official firmware? ;)
Dark_AleX should go back to using that dadadada error that came up if people tried to upgrade to an official firmware :P

they now have chickenhen to enable homebrew on the psp 3000 not sure what ofw it works with but best not to upgrade anyway and also there is a custom firmware loader for psp slim with the ta-088v3 and hopefully coming to the 3000 soon that allows for iso loading so its only a matter of time now and just before the new psp lite is released.

Thank you very much for the update. Much appreciated. I remember I had my old PSP setup for ISO :) that's what I am mostly interested.
Thanks again. And I won't do any upgrades.
