hi, im new to this and have installed all i have needed to for the homebrew channel and backup launcher to work as described in the forums guides, my system is 3.4E and i have loaded the cios_fix.wad to via the custom wad installer provided that seems to have installed fine so i carried on and installed the cios installer and it seemed to install fine saying all 15 hash's were ok, then it finished by saying cios returned -1! not sure if this is right as the videos i have watched i never saw that come up once it was installed, i did try to load a game and got dvd read error 324 i used a dvd+r(probably the reason) not tried a -r as yet but just wanted to know if this was normal for the cios installer?
any help appreciated

This is because 3.4 blocks these installs. After homebrew is installed you have to install the oct. 23rd fix, then the iso downgrader, then install cios v7. Then you'll be good to go.

You dont have to downgrade, its not really a good idea for newbies to mess with the downgrader. I've seen too many people mess up their consoles that way.
And instead of the cIOS_fix.wad you want the one named IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad
Thats the one that will allow you to install the cIOS you need for the backup launcher.

ios downgrader has to be run if you are on 3.3 or 3.4. You don't need to update your firmware is what peguin is saying here.

i have already installed that file and i still get install returned -1, and disc read error 324 obviously something does not work, i have followed the instructions step by step and studied this religiously but is has not worked, something must be missing!
ill go from the start-
installed homebrew channel via twilight hack on wii version 3.4
then loaded the file named IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad
tried to insall cios installer but failed,
then was told need to load the cios_fix, so installed that then installed cios installer, all installed fine until end when it says failed - intall returned -1?
was told to downgrade then told not to as i dont need to!!
i made sure i followed each step to precision so why wont it install

Well backups aren't going to run if cios isn't installed. You need ios 257 installed. Then run the ios downgrader 1.0 or 1.1. did you do that as stated on the oct. 23rd page? Then after that install cios v7

Got mine off of mininova.org. Did you do the iso downgrader?

i was told not to downgrade anything, but maybe they did not know what they were going on about, after i downgrade should the firmware still be 3.4e and just the ios downgraded? would the cios installer work after this?
thanks

I am not talking about firmware downgrade. This is probably where you are getting confused. Go back to the oct. 23rd page and read under 3.3 and 3.4. It is called the ios downgrader. You have to run that, then install ciosv7. That is probably your problem

Pretty slim. Just don't mess with changing the firmware to a different region. That's when people seem to get bricked. You'll be fine if you don't do that.

No problem. I had the same issue on my first wii I did. Problem is that people get confused with this step and think it's a firmware downgrade when it's actually an IOS install. Glad you got it working. I'm doing a 4th one tonight. Hope this softmod lasts a long time.

Had the same problem when I modded my second wii. The wad manager would run but wouldn't install any of the wads. Got a new one and all was well. I have done 4 wii's so far, and so far my buddies love me.

You dont have to downgrade, you just have install IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad and then you can install the cIOS. Unfortunately since the file is copyrighted by nintendo I cant give you a link to it, but if you google it you should be able to find both the wad and the special wad manager to install it very easily.
