wiikey 2 direct boot of home brew

I've searched the forums up and down but am very confused by the "direct boot" option on the key for home brew. There is no additional channel in my menu. I can't find anything on the web for it. I've read Guide: How to Install HBC + WiiGator Gamma BootLoader: but isn't that just for softmod? Could someone please clarify this for me.

I'm not exactly sure what the direct boot feature that the wiikey2 is claiming, but you can boot any homebrew you want via the homebrew channel.
