OK, so I was opening my battery to hard mod it and make it a Pandora. During the process, I slightly punctured the battery on it's side causing it to throw a small spark and some smoke.
I wasn't exactly 100% sure at this point that my battery was completely destroyed and burned out, so I went on to turn battery into a Pandora and I removed the pin. I took some what precautions and covered the puncture wound with electrical tape.
Then I use the battery(which is mines) on a used psp I pretended I wanted to buy from an a third party. The batter worked perfectl! and downgraded that PSP. So I did it on mines too. Then I took the battery out and made it normal by doing that pencil lead trick. The battery so far seems to be working, but I need your opinions on whether I should still continue using it or stick to just using the ac wall plug till I get new one.
*cliff notes*
*I punctured battery trying to make pandora.
*It made a small spark and smoke.
*I covered puncture wound with electrical tape.
*It still worked, so I downgraded psp and got cfw.
*I also reversed battery using the pencil lead trick.
*Should I still use the battery, or stick to using wall plug till I get a new battery?
I made a thread just like this a few days ago... too bad nobody responded.
My battery worked after I poked it, but just to test it. I quickly removed it because I didn't want it ruining my system or exploding or something. And it started to smell like burnt electronics so I really didn't want to test it again.
But the next day I tried again (realized it probably wouldn't harm anything) but the battery was dead. Seems like once I let it cool off, it lost it's charge. In fact, I can't even charge it.
here's the wrap up -
poked a hole (pssst and smoke)
still worked soon after (only tested for 20 seconds)
next day - dead - piece of plastic (good luck)

I just got a replacement off Ebay ($25) and now I can't get it to boot up automatically. I cut the heck out of that pcb line, but nothing. Oh, make sure you buy an official sony battery if you need a replacement.
TY very much for your response. Yeah I did the same exact thing you did, except mines still work. I don't want to push my luck though so I won't keep using it. It's a damn shame too because I know it would probably keep working.
But I too am afraid it might end up burning up later on in life and messing up my psp.
I did some research on Lithium batteries and apparently they don't explode or leak unless punctured. Also, that they lose charge after being punctured(duh).
However, they shouldn't be charged if punctured. So I guess they work when punctured but for a limited time, during this limited time you can still use the battery without fear of damage.
So they can blow up when you puncture them of course, but they don't leak or blow up anymore after that (unless you puncture the battery again lol).
*charging them while punctured is not a wise decision.*
I updated this so other future newbies like me can have answers to this.
~I will try to see if there's a way these punctured batteries can be repaired at home. If I find out how to, I'll post it here~
