How to fix a broken LG drive...

Hi all, this is my first post but I've used the info in this forum to get myself set up with a nice Wii backup/modchip solution. I sucessfully installed a WiiKey 2 and then set about making backups with DVD dumper, I was a little concerned about wearing out the Wii drive so decided to get myself an LG drive.

After a lucky find on eBay (LG 8162 £14) I thought I was set, however the drive was faulty, it coulnd't read any discs. I tried adjusting the pots on the laser but to no avail, as a bit of a long shot I searched for a replacement laser using the model number. Lo and behold it's the same type of laser as the ones used in Xbox 360s!

Model Number SF-HD67

I ordered one from China, installed it in place of the original and I now have a fully working drive for about £22 total. Bargain considering they got for £40-60 normally.

Just wanted to share this with anyone who may have access to a faulty drive and wanted to spend a couple of extra quid to get it working.
