hi guys. just bought a ex1000 from skywonder. came with free delivery and a rs232 cable for updating. is this a null modem cable as i have read they can differ?

also i didnt have a male serial port on my PC so i bought this from maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=97872

connected the 25 pin serial to the port on the pc and the male serial to the female rs232 suppled by skywonder and i cant get the box appear on the pc. says it has not recognised it.
am i using the wrong cables?

I will answer your question so!!.. you have the wrong cables, you need Null Modem cables like these ones:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?Menu...Menu=y&doy=23m1

try and exchange the ones you bought telling them it was a null modem you asked for, and this is what you got!!

ok thank you for your replies guys. so the rs232 cable that skywonder supplied is not a null modem cable correct?
also i do not have a serial port on my pc so do i get a usb to serial like on the guide or a Serial Null Modem 25-Pin Female to 9-Pin Female that i can plug into the printer port. I know this is a little confusing
i bought the 25 pin to 9 pin male thinking i could use that. obviously not. all help appreciated guys

Your best bet is to get a 9 pinfemale to 9 pin female, with a PC with XP its much easier, see if any of your mates has one and flash it on theres!!

the cable you got with the box is not a null modem cable it looks the same but the wiring is different, so you will need a NULL MODEM one. as i said its much easier doing a straight flash using this method as opposed to the seriel ports way!! (thats my opinion) LOL
