Sorry QT is the most bloated bloat wear ever, give me a simple codec that forces me to watch a 5-10 second add when online that I can use in browsers and MPC and I would be all over it..but no not with the bloat...and crappy GUI....

The name accounts for that much :P

But I just can not stand QT I never did and I hate to get video working on a site you need to install their player because they don't want to make a simple codec for their precious priporitary standard....

Yes there's the alternative
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/quicktime_alternative.htm

but I find it some what buggy.

Quicktime is FAIL. Always has been, always will be.
VLC > QT, any day of the week.

Is it as versatile as VLC? I've never heard of MPC before. I love VLC because it's both easy to use (and can play nearly every damn file available) AND it has more technical capabilities as well (streaming, etc).

Media player classic

Its like Windose Media player without the bloat, better/simpler GUI and options.

VLC is more feature rich but I hate its GUI so I use it as a backup..

VLC has its own codec set and is good to check and see if you are having codec issues or video card/driver issues.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Player_Classic

I use it with K lite codec pack full version(which has it in it)
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm

I get a new version of the codec pack every few months I rarely have codec based issues.

Try it out you might like it but if you are happy with VLC there is no need to change I guess.

I've tried that K Lite codec pack out before. I remember it was a FREAKING HUGE download and lagged like crazy. Idk, maybe my comp is just a dinosaur and I need more RAM to run crap that uses that stuff.

klcodec442f.exe is 15MB(it got as big as 40MB some years back) codecs are more optimized now adays, mmm whats your ramm,CPU and video?
If its over 1.6, 512MB+ and a DX 7 vid card or better you should be fine, if its slightly older spec It might run but VLC would be a better setup for you.

Yeah, it's 2.53 and 512 MB. Idk what my vid card is. I think I'll just stick to VLC for now, so as not to rock the boat too much. But thanks for the headsup about MPC. I'll def check that out when I get my new laptop next month. =]
