Buying advice for a moddable PSP

Hi there,

I'm looking to buy a PSP which can have custom firmware on it. I've looked in the forum and the best way appears to be looking at the label and running some code via your PC.

The problem is that I'm buying second hand where there will (probably) be no box and no ability to connect to a computer before I purchase.

So what I'm looking for is guidelines on what to ask to ensure that I buy a PSP Slim which doesn't have a TA-088 v3 motherboard. I already have the Datel Tool Battery and a Magic Memory Stick.

So, if I just ask for the version number of the PSP Slim and it's less than or equal to 3.90 - is that good enough?

If not, what other questions should I ask and what answers would mean that everything is okay?

The original firmware should be less than or equal to 3.95. Say they had 3.95 then updated it to the latest you would still be fine.
Ask how old it is - just a rough guess buy psp's 6 mos & older should be moddable.

Thanks for this. I've found a PSP Slim with 3.71 so that should work right?

I'm asking because a search on Google for "downgrade 3.71" finds me a lot of posts from people saying it isn't possible.
