i had the same thing happen to me a while back,is the red light on? if you try to power it on does the light change and then go black real quick, if so its probably your wii, that was the case for mine, and i had to get a new one.

If thats the same problem as panman22, I'll say that it sounds like a power surge. Its possible that only the AC adapter was fried. Test it on someone else's cord, if it works then you can pick up a replacement for about $30. If it still dosent work then the console is probably dead.
i just unplugged everything including monitor cord, controllers etc.
waited 10 mins and rebooted . everything was fine. i got that from another site
