Flashed my Hitachi V46 with ixtreme 1.4. Originals work fine, but on backups get a lot of open tray messages. They work after a ejecting the dvd a couple of times. I've read a lot of threads, but i still cant find out how to fix it.
Any ideas?

I had the same thing with a Hitachi 47. Used Verbatims at 2.4x and still an issue. The problem lies with the POT Calibration of the DVD drive. It is fairly simple to adjust. Mine was running around 4.6k ohms and I decreased the resistance to 3.4k ohms and dvd drive plays backups like a champ now. Here is a link to the tut http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=517961 click the mirror link, its working

Nope, It still has trouble reading the dvds. It originally was at 3.33, I tried 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, 4.2. None of them worked.
Anything else?

go lower. you want less resistance on the laser so it will read stronger, if you go higher you are making it harder on the laser to read.

Yea thanks, that worked. I changed the pot to 2960 (2.9K). The games work perfect. Do you think my laser will burn out quicker now?

The guide says don't go below 2.8k ohms. Personally I have never had to go as low as you did so I'm not for sure on the life expectancy of running the laser at 2.9k resistance. I am curious as to what program you are using to burn the games, What type of burner are you using and last, what type of media are you using. Maybe changing some of those things will allow you to increase the resistance, but yet still not get the open tray problem.

Well i was using Image Burn at first, but i would get 6 Open tray messages before a game would work. Then I used clone cd and then I would only get around 2 Open tray messages.
Burning @ 2.4X with Verbatim from Singapore. Using a lite on Dvd-Rw SOHW-1653s. Also tried a newer dvd burner, but got the same results.
My xbox is only a year and a few months old, but it still has a shitty DVD (Hitachi 46) player from 2005. That is why it probably has such a hard time playing the games.
I'm installing the games on the HD so the laser can have a longer life.

Maybe try using XBOX Back up creator as it has a different write engine than IMGBurn.

I had a stubborn open tray dvd drive, but got better results when I used xbox backup creator. Just a thought though, if you do try, please post results.

I could try that but then I would have to open the XBox and change the Pot again. I'm too tired today.
