I posted this on ImgBurn support forums, and got no help other than a poke in the ribs. I figure you guys will be a little more receptive =)
So, here's the problem.
I have burnt multiple backups on Memorex discs, using ImgBurn (along with Schtrom and DVDMulleter) and each time my 360 reads the disc for about ten seconds, and then goes back to saying "open tray." However, I got no errors when making the dics, and at the end ImgBurn tells me everything was completed, and further more the computer will load the disc and tell me to put it into a 360 console in order to play the game on it. My 360 is properly prepared (It has been flashed, and has updated firmware) to read backups, though, because I do have a backup disc produced by a third-party that the system reads just fine.
I have some Verbatim DVD+R DL's coming in the mail, and will see if that fixes the problem.
In the meantime, I wanted some advice if there someone out there who can help me. I am curious as to the importance of changing the bitsetting/booktype when burning a 360 game. My Toshiba Satellite's burner either doesn't support bitsetting/booktype change, or does not work with ImgBurn to do it. At least not in a way I can figure out.
Is it necessary to do this in order to produce a working 360 backup, or do you think the Verbatim over the Memorex is my only real issue?
Thanks for the advice. I will take your woed for it and see how it goes. I suspect you are right seeiing as how one of the back-ups I made (but only one) I can use now, because the 360 will read it usually after three or fours tries.

Verbatim are way, way, way overrated. I bought some black data Memorex only because they were on sale. 40$ for a 50 pack sound good to me. I burn 20 of them so far I only had an issue with 3 of them only because with the first two I didn't know how to burn 360 games and the other I manual open the DVD drive, trying to stop the burning process before it started since I wasn't really ready to start my burning yet and the disc was spinning but not burning but it scratched the shiz out of it. So I didn't want to run into any problems with that disc and just tossed it out.
So who ever thinks Verbatim is the end all to burning a perfect clone of anything, it being a DVD movie a game for other console. its not all about the brand, but the type of aluminum used by the manufacturer
Thanks for the reply. I'm still waiting for my Verbs to get here, but am optomistic. And it's nice ot know the newer firmwares don't care abgout dvd+r compared to dvd-r.
In the meantime I have been able to get one of my 360-backups to play (if I open and close the drive four or five times), and I was wondering. Other than the obvious wear on the gears, it is bad for any other parts of the disc drive (i.e. the laser) to play a disc that it has trouble reading?

Yes, it's bad on the laser eye. It's working overtime to read it, in turn killing the life of the laser.
I got the Verbtim DVD+R D in the mail over the weekend, and now I have no issues whatsoever with burning games. Verbatims are not overrated--They are the answer!
YES verbs are the answer unless u enjoy burning out the laser in ur drive and the hassle that goes along with replacing it, but i guess the money saved buying the cheapo media can be used to get a new drive replacment LOL
