Hi guys,

So i've recently decided to install the HBC so I could run other region games w/o a modchip. My current Wii is 3.4E with GeckOS installed.

My worry is, I know that if you've hardmodded (using a chip) to run region free, is that there is a potential that the game might ask you to update your firmware (with the included update on the disc) and if you do and its a game from another region your wii might be bricked.

Does this happen if I use GeckOS? will a game that includes a new update require me to install the update?

My only goal is to play japanese games (T vs C, Taiko, etc), if you guys have any other softmodding solutions that once done I practically never have to worry about, please let me know or link me to a thread.

Cheers,
Dom

Gecko and wiigator both automatically block updates, so you dont have to worry.

I've actually never gotten gecko to work on all the games that wii gator works on. What do you use penguin? Is 1.07 the newest Gecko os?

I have an older version, but only used it a few times. All my backups are ones I made from my own games except for a japanese smash bros that I dont use anymore, so I dont really have need to block any updates.

Thanks, penguin. It's good to know that updates will be blocked. I'm currently using 1.07 GeckOS, I understand that the Twi hack and the HBC for 3.4E firmware requires the 1.07 GeckOS (compared to the old gecko region free app).

I've never heard of wiigator, i'll look into it if some of you guys got that one working better.

I cant believe I have to work this hard just to play region free games. My old gamecube was easier, one chip and thats done. I guess having a console that can connect to the net and dl updates gives you that problem.

Nintendo should just give up like sony did and make it region free. It's not like im trying to be dishonest here, i just want some friggin tatsunoko vs capcom happening, hehe.

With wii gator it's cake. Simply force NTSC to on if you have a PAL verson on a NTSC box.
