i was told that nothing was needed to get the key from a liteon just to use the probe or solder the drive. i tried using jungle flasher but no com port appears in the program. is there anything wrong?

good place to start would be with the tutorials on how to flash the drive.

well if you would have been reading, you would have saw that you can solder the PCB board to get the key, or make your own spear/probe, and even make your own modding 'board' for it as well. so yes, there are other ways of doing it.

probably not, but if you read the guides, on how to properly install the software and the drivers, then i would bet your com problem would go away.

I worked myself around this liteon problem by buying a older Xbox...
I can't belive some places around here still had old, old xboxs. even ones with 20GB hard drives.
i.e I picked up the limited ed halo 3, not that I like it but it beats plan back and oldie white....

I don't care how you go about it, you will still need to extract the key via serial (com port), or usb to com. Whether that be from the ck3, DIY extractor ect..,or a homemade extractor (as i did).
Also, if no com port shows up in JF, just manually type "com1" (or whatever com port you are using) in the com port drop down area.
Good luck!

The lite-on isn't a problem. The problem is people that don't want to learn to flash them.
If you can solder and have a few parts around it will cost you about $5.00 (if that) to extract the key.
Of course, you will have to have some knowledge of flashing too.
Oh forget it...it is a problem for most people. What a shame. :(
