Would be nice if mods can put up a poll (if possible) on this thread.

I want to get a show of hands on how many of us do either hardmod or softmod our Wiis. Lets try not to argue with "modchip is better because xxx" or "why hardmod when softmod is free etc etc" because we all have heard it already.

I'll start it off with two listings since I own two Wiis.

Wii Chipset: D2C
Modding Method: Wiikey2

Wii Chipset: D2E (Epoxy)
Modding Method: Twilight Hack

1 D2E softmodded

I would have hard modded because I couldn't be bothered going out finding a copy of Zelda but after realising my friend had a copy and due to my impatience of waiting for the shipping period of a chip, i chose to softmod it :P

I have modded 5 wii's with softmod. Softmod is awesome because:

1.) Plays backups perfect (no difference except for a video glitch sometimes - this will be fixed in next release of wii gator.
2.) It's free
3.) Best of all, you don't have to open your wii to mod it with this method. Too many people are frying wii's because they used the soder method. No nintendo screw driver required.
4.) Possible firmware update could cause it not to work, but so many people are doing the softmod, they will hopefully keep it up to date.

5) Only downside is you have to either own, rent, borrow zelda one time. Works for me since the video store is down the road.

lol hardmod is way better than softmod in that you can play gamecube games, put 3 game cube games to one disk via gcos. dont have to worry about patches and updates. Put 4 gigs of roms on dvd.

but if you are too cheap like everyone else to get a mod chip go softmod its good for now until nintendo blocks all softmods.

To avoid this turning into one big argument/pissing contest/debate, please just list whether your wii is softmodded or chipped. No discussion necessary as this intent of this thread is only to collect data as requested by the OP.

Sorry, no poll system in place at afterdawn. Feel free to compile your own data.

I've hard-modded dozens of Wiis with all kinds of chips.

Me personally I have the good ol' Wiikey.

Hard modded original wii with no legs cut, using an original wiikey

Wii 3.2 PAL
Wiikey 1.9s

Then I also made a modded paper mario disk that when you put the disk in the drive, you click play game and it launches the wad installer, and just installs the ones from your SD card :D
Makes my life much easier!

Why I did what? The disk that auto launches the wad installer is so much quicker, no twilight saves or anything like that, i just boot this game and it does it.

Still makes no sense to me since with the softmod all you do is put your game it and it just works. You don't need a special disc. Just read the walkthrough over at www.pothsprojects.com

I have soft and hard believe it or not. I bought the chip when i thought there was no way to do HBC on 3.4 then it turns out like the next day i could do it. it works because i can launch everything from the disc channel and i have wiigator to launch trouble titles like Bleach Versus Crusade.

Wii 3.4 NTSC-U D2A
HBC
Wiikey2 w/ wiiclip

I chose wiiclip because if Nintendo some how blocks it i have and easy removal option. Not that unsoldering is terribly hard its just inconvenient

My disk isn't for softmodding to run games, it's to install wads, and vc games.

I was going to hard mine mine d2c2 key with clip once my warranty was over, but saw a video on you tube on how to do the zelda hack. I did not think it would work, but I rented the game and did it anyhow. It was easy and works great, and since I don't care about firmware upgrades or online play as much as others it works great for me. I even turned my wifi off just cause I have no need for it really. I can now play my backups and did not have to break the seal on my Wii.

So I would say Softmod is the way to go. It's free, it don't violate your warranty, and most anyone with half a brain can do it. I also got all of the wads ( channels, virtual console games ect)I also have emulators to play Atari, Nes, Snes, Sega, Dvd's, ect. So much fun.
