I have a 20gb hdd and it's filling up, i need more space. Is there anyway i can use a usb for more space. I'm hoping that there is a program out there that will format a usb in a certain way so that the 360 will recognize it as an hdd. Or even better, an external hdd. Ok, so is there a way to make a usb or external hdd be my 360's hdd?

for installing games and game saves ?? no ... there is no way.
you should look into upgrading your 20GB ... for about $45 on ebay you can buy a brand new western digital BEVS series 120gb bare drive... you open the enclosure for your 20gb drive, take it out, and install the 120gb drive...
there are various webpages explaining the whole process you can find through google

That is the one I used and it worked great. You can also buy them prehooked up on ebay too if you don't want to do the work. But it is really easy and I like to do my own stuff.

i'm working on a laptop and according to a guide i just read, i need the SATA controller, and i don't have that with a laptop, so i might need to buy one prehooked.

SATA Controller is part of a comps mobo,if your referring to formatting the bigger hd for the 360 all you need is a external housing to connect to the laptop for formatting, stay clear of the so called USB to SATA conversion cables (has SATA plug one end inside a plastic electronic casing & USB at the other as they're hit and miss as to whether the comp will detect it,the ads will say crap like auto detect but that's a lie, they don't use std USB drivers even the driver disc supplied is useless,if they did they would work straight out of the box like all external housings)
These housings are good i have 4 of them, there is also just the SATA version & it's cheaper since it doesn't have IDE as well,& since your overseas it'll be cheaper still, there's plenty of space inside them & can be fully stripped down so all that's left is the base, the hdd is held to the bottom plate by thumb screws as is the base to the end panels great for testing hdd's etc

no bare means it just comes with the drive itself... i.e., no cables, screws, adapters, etc...
the best ebay search string for these drives is:: WD1200BEVS xbox
