hi all,
I recently built my own computer and it was working perfect until recently. Basically, at first, I left the computer for a few minutes (until it turns the display off automatically in vista), then when i came back I couldn?t get the display to come on again (as if the graphics driver had crashed etc). Then restarted pc, started using it again, came back about 2 hours later and the same thing had happened :(, I then restarted the PC again and it started to boot up vista apart from this time it stayed on the black screen before the windows vista logo and login screen. This time when i restarted nothing happened at all! The bios didn?t start at all and even if the bios was corrupted no messages were displayed atall warning me I need to re-flash the bios etc. My motherboards is also suppose to have anti-crash bios.

Using the motherboard manual i reset the cmos (using the jumper and taking the battery out of the mobo) but this had no effect and the same thing happens... nothing: P

I also have taken every component (baring the processor and motherboard) and tested it on an old dell pc system and all of the components work fine. Therefore I can assume that the problem lies within the motherboard or processor itself.

I would also like to add that before the usb ports would constantly be powered up (the mouse light would still be on in standby etc) but i have notices that even the usb ports done power up when I turn it on now. I have also tested the pc with a different psu etc.

Do you think this is a faulty motherboard or could it be the processor? and also I bought this motherboard of ebuyer so if anyone knows how i can get a replacement after the crappy 28 days return policy of ebuyer please advise me :D

(if its any use) The motherboard I have is:
ASUS M3N78 GeForce 8200 Socket AM2+ onboard Graphics 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

Any advice or help is appreciated,
glitchzoo
(btw sorry for the long post)

My first suspect would be the motherboard. CPUs aren't very often faulty. Cheap Asus motherboards are rarely very good.

It shouldn't be too long, ebuyer have been quite good about RMAs recently.

Well Today I got a delivery from ebuyer and they sent back the same motherboard saying they coulnt find any faults on it :S they also said they updated the bios to the latest version. I plugged it all back in just to double check and same problem still dosent work. Im guessing it must be the processor then? (the memorys already been tested in another machine)

Perhaps. It's unlikely but it does happen.
