I have noticed a lot of confusion so I made this basic guide to do the Zelda Hack. This is for people who want to play backups on 3.3 or 3.4 firmware. enjoy!

1) Connect wii to wi-fi and run system update to 3.4
2) Prepare SD card formatted as FAT32 with the following apps - ciosv7, Zelda hack beta 2, ios downgrader, custom manager 1.3, cios_fix, ios257, and wii gator wads
3.) Put in RETAIL game of Zelda play for like 20 secs until it says it's saving game.
4) Exit zelda and look at the back for the correct verson, is there a 1 or 0?
5) Go into data management and delete the save game you just created
6) Load the beta 2 Zelda hack from SD card in your region
7) Start zelda game again and you'll notice 2 zelda load games. If you are USA, choose load game "0"
8) Once game starts, go talk to the man standing there and it will begin the homebrew install - click the "1" button on your remote to accept it until the wii goes back to the main page
9) Once homebrew is install, click on the channel and go to the custom manager 1.3 and install IOS 257
10) Exit and wii will reboot, go back to homebrew again and choose custom manager 1.3 again and run CIOS_Fix.WAD, then Wii gator.wad, then exit again.
11) Choose IOS downgrader in homebrew and run that (this will take a few minutes- grab a beer)
12) Go back into the homebrew one last time after ios downgrader is done and choose CIOSV7 (has sonic icon) and install this.
13) You're are ready to go on 3.4
14) Insert backup game, and click on wii gator icon to launch game (note if you are running NTSC box and trying to play out of region game, hold in "B", go to config options and FORCE NTSC to on or the pal game will not play)
15) If you are downloading games, I recommend downloading in your region. Example, if you are in the USA, download NTSC games only. This will make it so you don't have to FORCE NTSC on and less chance of a brick.
16) This is the basic steps, let me know if I missed anything. This guide would be for a complete up to date system as of 1/28/2009

Great! Nice update for fresh hackers Iceman - couldn't be easier.
For my issues turns out that it was a media problem. I've been through 5 different DVD types but the only ones that work for me are Verbatim DVD-R 16x (burn at 2x).
I am still running 3.2E because I am not sure if I can upgrade safely with Starfall installed and don't know how to remove Starfall yet. Cross that bridge when we come to it I guess.
Enjoying games now though so thanks to all those who contribute time and effort on these forums. Respect!

Starfall is of the past. You can run it all on 3.4 with my guide above. You are going to have to update sooner or later to play newer games. Glad you got it working. Only game I am having issues with right now is smash bros.

There is a new forum doing this stuff. It's called www.pothsprojects.com. They seem to post links to anything you need and provide packs. Not sure if I can give a direct link, but read under walkthroughs. Has it all baby!

No, why would you think that? After I read the above post, I found it by googling. Seems like a cool site.

Why would I think that you are Sentinelace? Because you've represented yourself as such. I've put the parts in bold, red and italic that indicate you claim credit for the guide. You should include a credit reference to Sentinelace and also a link to his actual work if you wish for this to stay here. I would also think that you should contact him/her for their permission to publish their guide here at AD.

My fault. I give full credit to sentinel ace from pothsprojects.com and I do have permission. Do you want me to prove this somehow? Sorry for this being such a big hassle.

Good guide! I did this update following the other guide and I didn't remember me installing the Wii gator.wad file because it is not mentioned there.

What is the Wii gator.wad file for? I haven't install it and it seems that everything is working fine for me. I have been able to play backups on mi 3.4 Wii. Am I missing something special if I don't install it? What is your recommendation?

The link in the top has helped me mod 6 wii's with no problems. I just had problems as everything on here wasn't clear, plus you had to find the files yourself. At the link above Sentinel Ace gives you a pack with all the files you need.

Everything in my guide is perfectly clear.

There is 1 file you need to google which is Official Nintendo code and it can not be directly linked on this site or the site that has the OCT 23rd 3.3/3.4 fix. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to type in the WAD file name in google and find a link to download it.

@ahoraes

Since iceman didn't actually answer your question I will.

The Gamma Boot Loader WAD file will install the Boot Loader directly to the Wii Channel Menu. This will allow you to launch the Boot Loader directly from the menu without going through The Homebrew Channel.

There is no difference in performance either way. The only difference is how you launch the Gamma Boot Loader application.

I prefer booting it via Homebrew Channel so I don't waist space installing a bunch of channels on the Wii and using up the Wii System storage. This leaves more room for VC/WiiWare games to be installed.

@ahoraes - a wad file is basically just installing something as one of the channels on the main wii menu screen. If you install wii gator.wad, then you will have a channel on your wii menu that you can click to launch wii gator (similar to the regular disc channel) instead of having to go the homebrew channel and navigate to the launcher within the homebrew channel each time you play a backup. While there are some who prefer to go through homebrew each time, others (myself included) prefer to have the wad installed so we can simply save time and click straight on the wiigator loader.

If you are following pothsprojects.com guide, you should really post over there for questions since it's sentinel's guide. Sounds like you are confused. What guide have you followed?

Why post the guide here if your going to tell those that need help to post in the source link.

@aspot

There are 2 USA versions of Twilight Princes.

So you need to copy the USA TP hack version to your Wii system.

Then when you load the game save during game play you choose the second game save.

The first game save listed is for version RVL-RZDE-0A-0.

The second game save listed is for RVL-RZDE-0A-2.

Since yours end in 2 then you choose the second game save in the list.

Hi,

I've tried various guides and is running the Homebrew Channel, Homebrew Browser and the Backup Launcher 0.3 Gamma (But that doesn't work).

I can run the steps until IOS Downgrader and that fails with network error -116. I know that my network works because Homebrew Channel/Browser connects.

Should I start all over and if yes what is the best way to get rid of the things I have done?

I've upgraded and my Wii is running on 3.4U but I think I came from an E and I bought the Wii in England.

Thanks!

I finally made it work using various guides but mostly (http://www.pothsprojects.com/ :-)

I tried to use a fixed ip adr. instead of dhcp and that made the connection way better. Then I was able to make an IOS Downgrade and use AnyTitle Remover to remove my first try (IOS249) and follow the guide.

All my backups didn't work but someone told me that using Verbatim +R and force ImgBurn to change the book type to -R should work. And it did :-)

how long should step 11 take?
its been at "loading 1. IOS DOWNGRADER V1.1 17%"
for abou 20 minutes now

**Update**
I let it go while I went to get some "All you can eat" supper, when I got back it was still at 17%. So I restarted the Wii and gave it another go... stopped at 17% again. I did it 3 times after that and every one stopped at 17%. Then I seen as I was exiting HB that my Wii had no IP I checked my network settings and at some point I must have got kicked off my home network. I had to reconfigure that and then I tried it again and BOOM loaded instantly and took not but 2 minutes to finish up afterwards. Everything is installed and im up and running again.
You should add to your guide that before step 11 you might have to reconnect your network.
