hey everyone, i hope someone can help because im completely stumped here. i ordered the western digital 1200bevs(rsto). i open hddhackr in dos from floppy and am able to dump the hddss.bin from an original ms 120gig hd. when i then hookup the western dig and attempt to flash it, it says something to the effect of: info on sectors 16-22 do not match, would you like to flash to make them match y/n? when i select yes it then says that the hdd isnt a western dig scorpio series which it is. im not running the gforce that people where having trouble with so i dont think i need to hexedit anything as the tuts suggest. ive googled this like crazy but any posts that mention the same problem get hijacked and dont seem to get answered. ive even tried on a friends pc with no luck. im completely out of ideas, so any info would be greatly appretiated.

only thing i can figure is that there's a slight difference with the drive you purchased... perhaps it is a newer revision of the BEVS drives series...

that HDDHACKR utility is very straight-forward... it didn't throw me any curveballs when i ran it...

i dunno what to tell you but for anyone else researching this its best to search on ebay with the string:: "WD1200BEVS xbox" that way you know the BEVS drive is xbox HDD compatible...

im starting to think its gotta be a different version even though the hddhacker 0.91 "read me" says updated for rst's -mine is an rsto. but the mnfg date on the drives on ebay when i did your suggested search were a few months newer than mine so who knows. has anyone here had success using western digital 1200bevs 22rsto?

from what i've read most people who have similar issues to yours turn out to have SATA issues...

are you sure you read everything in the readme file and are following it all?? do you have every other device on the system disabled... RAID disabled, etc etc etc..

also are you using a VIA sata chipset?? really i'm thinking your drive is probably fine its a SATA type issue...

I agree with Donaldo, are you sure all of your other drives are disconnected. Maybe it is trying to flash another drive. Also why not give hex edit a try it couldn't hurt, although it can be a little complicated your first time through. I had to do it to get mine to recognize properly (although i do have the geforce chipset). Just make sure everything is unplugged (sata and ide) and try different sata ports.

One that I flashed did not tell me "drive should work in your x360" but I tried it in my xbox and it allowed me to format it. So if your waiting for it to tell you it should work you might be waiting a long time. I recommend running hddhackr -f and then just try it in your 360. You might want to refomat it just to make sure there is not something on it that is screwing up the process.

thanks for the posts everyone. i do have all other drives unplugged, but as far as the raid being disabled, i have an hp so i cant seem to get into that option. i dont think i need to hexedit the hddhackr.com file because the program runs, dumps an original hddss.bin, and sees my western dig but maybe i'll try that. im also going to another buddies house and try it on his machines. i'll post if anything happens.

ugggg! no matter what i try, i get the same thing- fw on drive doesnt match. do you want to flash to make them match? y/n (something to that effect) when i select y, it says drive is not a western digital every damn time. obviously it is- wd 1200bevs-22rsto. here's what im doing incase someone can see my mistake:
1. hook up an original 120 gig ms harddrive
2. boot from floppy
3. run hddhackr
4. select hddhackr -d to dump fw
5. shut off pc, wait atleast 10 seconds
6. hook up wd 1200bevs
7. boot from floppy
8. run hddhackr
9. select hddhackr -f

every time i get the previously mentioned error. 3 days now and im crazy frustrated!

instead of dumping your own drive have you tried the hddss.bin 120gb file that is available on various torrent sites

yeah tried that too- no luck. i just dont understand how when i select "flash", it lists the western dig model (1200bevs rsto) but after it says "fw doesnt match, do you want to flash y/n" it then says its not a wd scorpio sata. baffling.

Heh, That's the exact same place that I bought my drive from, and its the exact same seller. My drive worked perfectly.

I'm at work so I can't see what my serial number is but my drive flashed easily. I had no problems what so ever.

Are you disconnected your computer hard drive before flashing the xbox hard drive?

thanks to all who posted-problem solved! it was my pc. went to a friends house and flashed right off the bat. sadly though, while connecting my original 20 gig to my pc i somehow fried it. bye bye every game save i ever had :( in hindsight, with all the time i spent on this project and the loss of my 20 and all the saves, i wouldnt do this if i had a do over but i thats life i guess.

Heh, it seems like I spoke too soon.

I've been using my new Hard drive for the past couple days and everything seems fine. Unfortunately, I only had 1 SATA cable so I never got around to transferring my junk to my 120 gig.

My Sata cable has finally arrived in the mail and... I only see partition 0.

xplorere 360 extreme 2 only sees partition 0 and xplorer 360 09b6 both only see partition 0's.

The Hard drive seems to work fine when I put it in my xbox 360 though. I don't have any xbox games but I would like to keep my saved games at least. Any ideas?

glad to hear ya got it sorted... really though in comparison to some of the other xbox projects... i.e., opening an xbox 360 for the first time... flashing a lite-on drive, etc... the hard drive mod seems to be one of the easier ones.

i think it was just a fluke that your controller was very much incompatible or it was a configuration problem with it... cause for me it was just a matter of hooking it up to my computer, running the program, and putting the drive back into the enclosure... very simple...

very easy... you can buy a used 64 MB memory unit off ebay for $5.99

hook the old drive up, move your saves to the memory unit, hookup your new drive and move the saves to it ... very simple.

even easier, and you could do today-buy a 120 with the transfer cable, use it, and return it.
