Hi

Just seen on modcentral site the new drivekey (chip)...

Looks to me to be the answer to no solder mod of the latest epoxy covered drives as it sits on between the ribbon connection....

Am i right, has any one tried or have any more info on these?

Thanks

Al

You might want to take off the CAPS in your title.

Anyways, it seems like a good chip without messing with the epoxy. Also good for those that have the new drive without the IC chip.

"The manufacturer has just e-mailed us it will most likely take another week before another batch ships to distributors so it should be available the first week of February."

Gonna have to wait for it though.

I have read in a few places where they suggest holding off as some improvements are being made to the earlier released versions, but can't wait to get my hands on some of them!

Whatever you say, say nothing when you talk about you know what for if you know who might hear you, you know what youll get. Youll be sent off to you know where for you would not know how long. Maybe I could search through the threads so you dont have to ??

Until speed for the drivekey can equal 6x the other modchip solutions are still superior. The + factors of a drivekey are easy install and for drives that can't be modded any other way ('d2nothing')

My current systems :)
V12 DMS4 Lite with summ0ne fix
Xbox 1.6 - Xecuter 3 w 300GB HDD
Xbox 360 - Sammy Drive with ixtrem 1.2
Wii Rev 1.0 - Authentic Wiikey
Be sure to use the summ0ne fix on your v12 !

I would steer clear of the drivekey. It is expensive as heck and is not as good as other modchips.

For that price your better off buying a D2B drive
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.19842

selling your old d2e drive on ebay for a good 30 dollars or so and getting a wiikey one, or an open wii for a couple of dollars.

That way you get a new drive that won't have any of the pesky problems of d2e or epoxy and you'll get a modchip that is upgradable and is more reliable.

great advice thanks...

Thought of it before but D2b drives i have seen have been £50 and i didn't think i would get anything for the epoxy drive to make back some cash.

Any issues to look out for if installing a US bought drive in a UK pal machine?? i assume not but better to ask...

Thanks

Drives don't have the region lockout info. Its the wii consoles themselves that are set to regions.

I also found another site

http://www.eeshops.com/nintendo-wii-c-2.html

They sell the circuit boards by themselves so you save 20 dollars.

I also like how they have D2A and DMS drive because with D2B there is always a chance of getting cut legs.

I got my wiikeys for 2.50 so a replacement drive with a wiikey is actually cheaper the drivekey.

BTW I can buy your drive off you. I know how to take epoxy off and so I could easily reuse it.

BTW if your never heard of Dealextreme they really are a great site. They have all the crap you could ever want for next to nothing.

I got my entire supply of modchips from their sister site volumerate and they sell them for half the price of other sites although you have to wait a good while since they are directly from the factory and have a long lead time.
