Hi everyone. I am new here and a little aprehensive about sending out my expensive toy to strangers but I would like to have some work done. I am located in Michigan and want to keep my LiteOn DVD drive untouched (stock) and use another drive on my 360. If I were to purchase a BenQ drive, and someone agreed to do the service, could I send the Xbox and BenQ drive and have the drive flashed and installed on the Xbox and the LiteOn just left out and sent back? I like the fact that Wabashman is close and it would only be 2 days UPS from here.

Really, you'd only need to send the drives, not the whole console.

I don't want to risk breaking something opening it up. Call me cautious, or just chicken, but I would rather it be done by more seasoned person. I am sure it is not too dificult to do and I could change my mind but I just wanted to make sure that the way I wanted it done would work out.

Plus it could be tested to see if it is working properly.

I completely understand what you are saying.
I only mentioned shipping just the drives because, like you, many other are leary about sending an entire console to a complete stranger. Plus it would really save on shipping costs.
But yes, shipping your entire console to a seasoned modder would allow him to both remove the warrantee sticker without damage and test the drive before shipping it back.

Too bad the box has been opened and the warranty label is toast. It was said to be refurbished (probably one of the 9 dollar fixes from Team Xecuter) Works fine for as much as I can tell... Games work. I have the BenQ drive on order and if you are interested in doing the firmware flash, and all the stuff that goes along with it, let me know the price and place. You were the first responder so in all fairness I will give you first crack. Thanks again.

I suppose all that work is worth it when you have the time to do it or are getting paid for it, but I'd rather just buy a new drive than to repair a broken one... Well, unless it's a laser problem.

If microsoft hands down a wave of bans and I don't get caught up in it then I will just install my old virgin drive. I like to have an alternative.

Mainly it is for piece of mind. If the firmware does become detectable and since I do not, nor want to, mess with flashing the firmware... I can just go back to good ol LiteOn and set her back to stock.
Arguably, this could be seen as a waste of time and money but I just like the thought of having the untouched DVD drive available for those, "just in case", moments. Maybe, I don't know what I am talking about since I am rather new at this.

Thanks for all the help bhetrick and wabashman. I think I am just going to go with flashing the DVD drive that is in it. Since I already have the BenQ coming, I will hold on to it for just in case reasons, I guess.
What do you think about the Blaster 360? After I have my box flashed I may get ambitious down the road to try it myself if 1.6 comes out. From what I have read this is pretty idiot proof?.? Even though it doesn't always take an idiot to Fudge something up.

the blaster is a waste, and I would wait until at least 1.51 comes out before you flash it. It should be out within a week.

I'd say when someone is first starting out, the hardest part is getting your pc set up for flashing. And really that isn't hard. It's when someone just jumps in and things go wrong that they end up with a big headache. They don't know if they followed a guide wrong, if the pc isn't set up right, or something else.
As for the Blaster, I use to suggest to those asking that it'd just be a waste of money. But now with the new iXtreme on the horizon which may include 0800 unlock for all drives, the Blaster may be a reasonable choice. But not for flashing drives. It'd be good for using your 360 to rip games to your pc. That is, of course, for those who don't already use a Kreon drive or a Samsung or Benq 360 drive.
