LAst night my PS3 took the 2.6 update. All seemed fine. System info shows 2.6 firmware. When it took the update I was playing a game. When I went to go online, it said I needed update. Thats when it took the update. After update game was frozen. Rebooted. Now the PS3 does not recognize any discs I put in. I thought it was an odd coincidence right after a firmware update. Called Sony. Told me to go through several steps to see if it would work. Did all the steps and its still not seeing discs. I got the PS3 about 6 months ago as a gift from my brother. Can't find receipt. Sony wants $150. Is arguing about this with Sony worth the aggrevation? I've read related posts and I'm not capable of taking the PS3 apart to try and replace parts. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You could always try asking your brother if he used a credit card to buy the PS3 or as a last ditch effort try "making" a receipt?

Arguing with sony won't work, I can pretty much guarantee it. Like Oner said you could try and find out if the ps3 was bought with a credit card then you could just get a new receipt from visa or whoever.

Another method is to try doing a swap at walmart.
