yea, you need to upgrade in order to play the newer psp games, the latest version is 5.00 m33-6 and you can find the links to both the official and custom firmwares in my signature

you can read this guide for detailed help http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/616311
but for the most part you just copy the firmware upgrade eboot.pbp and the official firemware .pbp like (390.pbp, 401.pbp ect.) to root/PSP/GAME/UPDATE of your memory stick and then goto the game menu of your psp to upgrade
also if you have wifi you can upgrade to 3.90 then use the m33 netowrk update to get you to the latest cfw

custom firmwares are http://alek.dark-alex.org/filez/dax/ and the official firmwares needed with the updates are here http://www.box.net/shared/z6gv6n68fg though you won't be able to go straight to 5.00 m33-6 so it may take you a few upgrades to get there
