I use verb's to burn my games and I would like them to look nicer instead of black marker. Does anyone use labels? I know that people do not use them mostly because the weight of the label sometimes puts more strain on the drive but, is it really that big of a deal? Is anyone using any "light weight" labels? What are you using?

best way to do it is to get White Inkjet Printable media .. . .. and a printer that is capable of printing directly onto the disk. an epson stylus photo R280 is one example of a cheap print that can do this.

i get fantastic results this way... disks that look insanely good and like the real thing... especially when you use a high quality scan for the printing.

i have also used the stick-on labels and they are fine for when you don't have printable media on hand. all of the concerns over the label adding to the weight of the disk and whatnot are really nullified with the new NXE and installing the game to the harddrive... since the disk is only used for 1-2 seconds at the start each time ya play..

but still i prefer the printing directly onto the disk... it just looks better. if ya want you can PM me I know of a good site that has all the latest disc label scans... for use in printing the labels not the game itself...

Thanks for the speedy and thorough response. Yes, I would like to know where that site is, also, I cannot fine printable Verbatims, or any printable DL discs so I may have to use labels, but if they are gonna kill my drive or cause my games to skip than maybe I better think of another way. I only have a 20GB drive so putting a different game on the drive each time I wanted to play would probably be more trouble. I have many friends who come over and play different games.

Thanks for your help.

be prepared to pay an arm and a leg, i have the epson r340 and i use it for my dvds i buy the printable media, but the dual layers are ridiclously over priced, they know what we are using them for so they mark it up big time, look at the pricing difference betwwen a standard dvd and a dvd that is printable, then look at the difference between a dual layer verb and a printable dual layer verb. i wont give in that much to them i just make the cases and that keeps me happy, if you truly want a "real" look there is a company on ebay that sells green dvd cases for a pretty reasonable price.
btw i dunno how the epson printer does that donaldo is reffering to does, but i love my r340! so i could only expect the same quality of their other printers. word of advice though, use genuie ink, cheap ink made mine look like poo. the genuine is somewhat water resistant. and you want to let the cd dry for about 5-10 mins because i have stuck them in the cd player right after they get done printing and when they come out of the cd player they look like modern art, because the ink was not dry so it spread out because the drive was spinning it so fast. hope this helps, i would agree though a printable media ready printer is the way to go!

yes the verb printables are overpriced... i have regular verbatims that i use sticker-type labels with ...

i have personally had great results with RiData white inkjet printables... ya get 25 disks for $17.99 which is quite reasonable... i haven't had one coaster yet i've burned about 35 of them. on newegg they have some bad reviews but i blame that on morons who don't know how to burn properly. cause they work great for me.

the R280 is fine i bought it specifically for printing labels on disks... it was their cheapest one i could find which had this functionality...

I got the same printer as you. Know any good deals on ink? Let me know cause it costs as much as the printer did lol.

i just get mine at circuit city, the ink is expensive, i just try to use it sparingly and not make mistakes, looks like i am going to have to find a new supplier now too, lol.

thank you for all the replies guys. I like the idea about printing directly on my disks but I already have about 50 backed up games all on Genuine Verbatim's and i cringe at the thought of having to start over. :) But I now see that we cant use paper labels so I will just wait till I find a good deal on the printer.

Thanks again.

I like to share one experience of CD/DVD labels.

I was selling a XBOX360 on craigslist that was flashed with the iXtreme 1.4 firmware. A customer met up with me but wanted to test the xbox360 first. He pull out his Gears of War back-up which he had a CD/DVD label sticker made onto it. It look fine and all but when he inserted the disc all I heard was whining and squealing from the dvd drive.

After manually opening the disc tray I found out the CD label peel out flew everywhere inside the dvd drive. After further inspecting the dvd drive was a lost cause since the CD label also had some adhesive glue which kinda ruin it all.

But yea, this is from one experience and I'm pretty sure there are people who has done 100x sticker labels and seen no problem. But after that experience, I think those blank looking disc look pretty good now.

I'd be pissed off big time, you break it you buy it!! I just use a sharpie for my labels, I don't need all the fancy stuff.

Well it is no big deal. I was going to sell it to him for $200 but with the dead drive I had to cut it down to $150.

But it is ok I guess. I bought the xbox360 for $60 so I did make some money off of it. Not as much as I was hoping.

www.cdcovers.cc is also a site i have used for quite some time know, dont know if thats the exact name of the site, but do a search and it will come up. if you do ALOT of cover making sometimes it is worth saving yourself the headache and becoming a member of a paying site, as they typically only off high-res scans, and can have a wider selection of covers.

Heh sp7ke already linked to http://www.cdcovers.cc/ .

The thing with cdcovers though is that the majority of the covers are fan-made. Almost all look crappy and are not worth the ink. With covergalaxy though there is quality-control and a lot of people re-touch the covers to make it look more professional. Plus it's free.

You're not looking in the right place heh. Check the forums. You can even request covers.
