My X360 is flashed and when I play using PhilipsDVD+R DL 8x and works fine but when I use Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x for certain games it says disc need cleaning and after repeatedly open and closing the tray the game plays fine (WTH! This happens on GH World Tour, I burned 2 copies at 2.4x same result).
I can't use Philips DVD+R DL 8x for all my games unfortunately because some games can't be burned for some reason (like Last Remnant, GH World Tour, etc.) Is it because of the DVD Burner? (My Burner is LiteOn 20A4H)
i was using xbox back up creator for the longest time and it worked fine and just one day it stopped working and now I use imgburn and that fixed everything, i've not had a single coaster yet since i switched over.
I Have the same problem, iv been reading the forums for the past week now, like 8hours a day trying to learn all i can about the firmware burning process and errors etc. but still i got nothing.
i have a flashed 360 (dont know what versions since i didnt do it) it plays the backed up games that came with it fine(GTAIV,QUAKE TERRETORIES etc), on nexxtech dvd+r dl with no problem.
now i tried doing my own,on my laptop's NEC ND-6500A , burned in both clonecd and imgbrn, so i thought it wasnt burning good enough. so i went out and bought a brand new extrenal burner for my laptop HP DVD1040E tried it again with both imgbrn and clonecd. no dice...
DVD+R DL's used were memorex(cheap, gave up),then bought verbatim(made in singapore) still didnt work
when i put the disc into my 360, it starts to spin the disc, and then stops after a minute, and pretends like there is no disc inside,, no warning messages, no disc cant read, no nothing,, just like it never existed...
help,,?
p.s booktype is set correctly, splicing is all good, made 100% sure of all that.
I use ImgBurn (with default settings and I use the *.dvd file for the layer break) to burn my games using 2.4x on Verbatim and 4x on Philips, although the games has errors in my console when I tried it in my friends xbox it works totally fine so I'm kinda scratching my head thinking that maybe I got a defective drive T_T I burned on cheaper discs it worked fine (well for Legend of Spyro & Alone in the Dark) but still no luck with GH World Tour.
After burning my 8th Verbatim disc I finally burned a working Last Remnant Disc 1 (LOL!) free of errors. In my ordeal of burning I found out that my xbox gives the error (disc need cleaning) during high loading parts of the game (the FMV on Last Remnant where you can s Tress and the scene starts to go down showing the trunk and then the error comes up). I will try to change my burner (I have an old Asus at my sister's computer) and burn again using ImgBurn.
Another thing, my dashboard is still the old one with no avatars. Does the dashboard update affects how my xbox read discs?
To Moccas:
I believe you have a defective lens, I read a lot on the forums and they say sometimes when you flash xbox drives it will have a weak lazer resulting to unreadable disc or what I recently read, some Hitachi drives got defective spinning mechanism which applies too much pressure on the disc so it can't spin. You need to burn at 2.4x and 4x is already pushing it, some games cannot be burned at 4x (from my experience)
To Donaldo:
I bought an Xbox Arcade T_T I still need to buy a Hard Drive T_T If I can't fix the problem I will just buy a hard drive and install the game so it won't read from the disc T_T
Thanks for the quick reply. Im going to look into replacing the laser, and the spinning mech, and we will see how it goes from there, as for the burning process iv burned at 1x 2x and 2.4x and neither worked. yes, i have gone through enough dvd+r dls that i could have bought 2 brand new games. but hopefully it will pay off in the end.
p.s the disks say 2.4x - 8x speed.. wouldnt it be bad to burn any slower then 2.4x if the manufacture doesnt recommend it?
Okay after all day of testing and wasting a lot of DVD+R DL (ROFL!) I found out the culprit! It's my f***ing DVD Writer! My LiteOn 20A4H Firmware QP5B PATA/IDE Lightscribe writer is broken! I burned using Asus at 2.4x it's max speed (I don't know the model just it's the first DVD+R DL compatible burner of Asus) and Samsung SH-202N Lightscribe at 4x! Both worked! Same medium (a cheap generic DVD+R DL). No lags No "Disc Needs Cleaning" no nothing! It worked like a charm yahoooo! And LiteOn can screw themselves!!! I'm not gonna buy anything with LiteOn on it starting today!!!
Thank you all for helping me with my problem ^_^
P.S. The total cost of DVD+R DL I scraped because of my faulty drive can buy me 2 Asus DRW-2014L1 PATA/IDE T_T

Before doing anything you should ask your friends to lend you some burned games and test it, because if it works then it's not your xbox 360 drive =)
