A friend of mine about a month ago had a guy flash his 360 ...
obviously he didnt give him a copy of the original firmware.it will still play origional games and some backups . is there any way i can up the firmware .
since all you need is the key then just go about it the same way you would normally for obtaining the dvd drive key. just read, make your new firmware, then flash.
Thank you verymuch for your reply the drive is a hitachi 3120l ver 46dg can u help me with doing this.. im using my 360 for power source. no connectivity kit yet . i just flashed a 3120 v79fl . can i unlock this drive the same way
Without getting into in detail (and it being so late I don't feel like going in to it) there is a tut here (yes right on this site) that may help you out.
There might be an easier way, but honestly, I don't deal with many Hitachis. So whatever.
But the method in that link DOES work.
I've never tried Jungle flasher with the 46 because I haven't had one in ages, but I did unlock a 78 with it. The 78/79 have a different way to unlock them from the lower ones.
I'd just use the link above. Or give Jungle flasher a go. Your call.
Edit: if you think a firmware "upgrade" is going to fix the reading issue of games, it won't happen.
It comes down to two things: media used, and laser eye issues.
Either try different media (verbs), a pot adjustment on the laser eye, or replace the laser eye altogether.
Hitachis also have several probs with the "open tray" issue. from the magnet falling off, to the laser position.
More info is needed in the problem really.
