Why do i need a SATA PCI adapter?

I may have to most likely end up buying this but i want to know what is it's purpose. I have a Hitachi drive 360 by the way.

You need the SATA PCI Adapter, in case your computer doesn't have SATA with the right chipset. So if your computer doesn't have SATA, then you will need to get the SATA Card.

i used my sata port that goes directly to my mother board and it worked perfectly. no problems...

If the SATA ports on your motherboard are not the right chipset, it will not work.
