ive downloaded some files and some are RAR and PAR.
i know what the RAR files are but i dont know what the PAR are ive never come across these before and was hope someone could help me out.

do i need a program to open it or will it be fine in WinRAR?

They are recovery files for the RAR files, download the program called QuickPAR. This will check the RAR files and fix them if they are missing data.
