My first xbox 360 flash.
First off I take my hat off to all the guys & gals who make this possible.

This is for the newbs and pro?s. im going to try to keep it short but note the things that I learned and so on..

Note to all,? use the search feature I posted no questions or asked for zero help and got thru just fine. Take peoples advice especially if you?ve read the same thing several times. In different locations. if you dont take the time to do some looking around for yourself then you shouldn't attempt this.

My software/firmeware/hardware.
I bought I 360 for 100 bucks, Came with everything and a wireless network adapter to. :D no it wasn?t stolen.
I got iprep v008, current firmware for the benq, xbox backup creator aka (xbc) and image burn. All of which came from xbins. You can also get the kreon firmware their too I believe. And got winrar.
The faithful Samsung with kreon on it. ebay 45 bucks total?
I bought a sata card from newegg for drum roll? 1.99 and free ship?
So total setup was 146.99
Kreon drive and sata card?
The kreon drive is much faster as a master drive. If you wanna make sure it works when you get it just shove a original 360 game in it and the drive will take a second but will show the disc.

I placed my sata card in and installed the drivers. Restarted my computer and it freaked. I already had sata ports and they didn?t agree. Pulled it out did system restore to just before I installed the card. Did the windows hardware installer and told it to look in the cd for the driver. Selected the correct driver and installed. Fixed that problem.
Next xbc?.
I extracted the files and installed. Tried to rip a game and it wasn?t acting right. Looked at the read me and realized their was another file I had to extract. After I did that the load/eject button under drive tools went away. And it added some other buttons. Then the kreon drive worked fine. Im not sure if this is for all kreon drives but every time I try and rip the game it says failed at least two or three times to get the security sector. When the ignore retry abort button comes up I click the retry button. And I it gets it? remember to set the drive to the master drive. My first copy was 45 minutes after it was set to master 15 minutes tops.

Opening the 360
What a pain the first time that is? after I put it back together the first time I forgot to put the eject button on. The second time I took one of my sisters bobby pins and broke it in half. Took me less than 2 min to get it.

Flashing using ipreep 008
put in my usb and picked the benq and the firmware. It wont let you pick the incorrect one. I got two files with my download. One was very small and the other was a meg I think? Let it set up my usb and that was that. Booted from usb (my computer will auto detect where to boot from.) I unplugged the other drives and booted the iprep program. I had a tutorial that was for an older iprep and I didn?t need it. the instructions on screen were easy. Note I?ve seen some pople wanting to boot ipreep from a CD but my thought was that you cant write your original firmware on it so its lost basically.. (right?)
typed my serial number wrong once. (note the **** mean that you are supposed to fill in the blank. Use the spaces as it shows too.) my read went fine but didn?t pay attention to the instructions. There is a list write them down. It also tells you what to answer and do. And you have to save your original firmware a specific name if not it will not let you write. The name is on the list. And as far as what sata port to put it in it let me tell it which port it was. i my case 7 and with only one port used I knew it was the right one.
When It came to writing it I did the same as before wrote the instructions and the file that I had to type. followed the instructions it tells you when you should have the drive on. It will ask about a magic number. Then it is supposed to ask about MTK I believe and they tells you to say yes and power cycle the drive it never asked me about the mtk but I saw it come up and started writing. I never had to power cycle it. it worte the firmware just fine.

Hooked up the xbox 360 and it turned on fine. I didn?t have a disc to try at the time. But it played original games fine so I assumed all was well. Turned it off and hooked up my hdd. I stood it on its side. Turned it on and got a black screen with an error I don?t remember the number but it was 36 or 86 or something like that, but I powered it back on without the hdd on its side and once it was on I just plugged the hdd in while on, black screen and my hdd was working fine and have had no problems sense.

So that?s my esperience. Long I know but maybe it will help someone?

yes i have a life.

dont use floppies. there is a reason why everyone says to avoid them. they are bad about crapping out in the middle of a write. use iprep, its much safer.

yes i plugged it in after the box was on. it seems to not want to read the games when its standing on its side. the copied ones anyways. when its laying flat its fine. but no problems with the hdd anymore just that once. a one time occurrence on the hdd im guessing or because it was standing rather than laying and because the case wasn't on it i may not have had it plugged in correctly...

yes i have a life.

If the floppy drive is from an older computer yes I agree with you, dont fool with it.

But if you purchase a new floppy drive and new floppy disc's it will work fine.

its really not worth the risk floppies new or old are unreliable and a lot of new computers do not come with them so most people would have to use and older one or go out and buy one.
and odds are most people can get their hands on a bootable usb or an old hdd easier and just use the bootable usb or ntfs4dos cd which is free. no need to spend extra money on a floppy u will only use for this purpose most likely. afterall most of us have had to spend money on via cards anyway and verbs are expensive enuff lol

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

You are correct in terms they are not reliable as in long term reliability. But just because its a floppy drive doesnt mean it shits out randomly after purchasing new.
As for the new computers not having floppies, your right most done. And some dont even have a header for connecting one even if you purchased one. But they do make a USB floppy drive, but if your PC will boot from removeable media you'd be better off using flash memory.

as far as the floppy argument goes you can buy a box for 7.84 at office depot or a 1gb thumb drive for 7.99... id go with the usb drive any day it has more uses ect.... it just makes more sense unless you have no other option...

nuff said.

I'm like the most technical mf'er I know. I *HAVE* to upgrade to the latest and greatest, but only when it's worth the price to upgrade. Anyway, I wish they let us use 5 1/4 floppies cause I'M OLD SCHOOL BABY!

I grew up before a hard drive was even in consumer computers.

Oh and For the record, I do all flashing with floppies... 3 1/2 inch ones, bought for 99 cents at a FAMILY DOLLAR on a 8 year old PC and have NEVER bricked a drive. Come to think of it, that floppy disk with my old "WCW meets Legend of the Red Dragon" door game I wrote for Wildcat BBS's still works.

You kids now-a-days don't know how to take care of their stuff. But I'm not saying they're more reliable than the new stuff... But they are reliable enough for me.

I think Oregon Trail was good because that's all the school could afford... Or was it cool because they *gasp* Let Us Play Videogames In School? If I haven't smoked that memory away, wasn't that for the Apple IIe?
