The problem is due to differences in the display and refresh rates between PAL and NTSC TV's. Booting the games through Gecko OS will let you force it to PAL output, which will work.

Alternatively, if people just played games from their own region instead of insisting on trying to play out of region games this wouldnt be such an amazingly common problem that gets asked about a couple times a week.

sorry if i have upset you penguin.....
i persist in getting whichever games that come along at the time. i only ever download from newsgroups....
I have a samsung lcd tv, which plays Pal or Ntsc, i have burnt and played quite a few Ntsc games already on my setup.....so why is it only certains ones go black and lockup the wii??
maybe if this was explained rather than 'try something else' people wouldn't repeat their requests....
help would be gratefully recieved....if there is any!!
thanks
Gazza!!!

i have no idea what im doing...but i will get there!!!

What guide did you follow? Most I talk to have did the walkthrough over on edited by ddp with much success. I did this walkthrough with the same TV you have and all my games work including mario kart.

Hay, no biggie. I was just frustrated because people ask about black screens when playing out of region games all the time and generally thats the reason.

Your problem might actually be related to brickblocker itself. It messes up things sometimes. You can set your wiikey2 to automatically block updates from the disk, or like I said before boot through gecko OS to block them that way.

Also, since you're fully updated, even letting the out-of-region games run their updates wont break anything, it will just give you duplicate news and weather channels. Once a game comes out with a later update than 3.4 this will no longer apply, but for the time being you're safe.

Dude come on.

Every answer to everyones question isn't edited by ddp what are you married to Sentinelace?

As well read the guys specs. The guy has a Wiikey 2 he has no need to install a boot loader. So the guide wouldn't help him anyway.

@lfcgazza

I agree with penguin98 about what region to download. Most games (if you look hard enough) can be found in all regions. Downloading the same region as your Wii system will insure the best compatibility (Please take that advice).

If you do download an Import game then you may need to region patch the game or boot the game via Gecko OS so you can force the region you need (even then it still might not work).

I don't think the reason is really known why some out of region disc boot fine and some do not. The fact is there is a hand full that (as far as I know) will not boot on a different region.

For future reference before downloading an IMPORT I would go HERE and look up the region compatibility to see if it boots fine or has an issue. According to this list Big brain academy is not region compatible and unfortunately Mario Kart has 0 data in the compatibility chart so I have no idea if it is compatible or not.

Actually I am married to you and I want you off the computer right now before I spend all our money. Remember that T.V. you wanted, too bad!!

ok guys...thanx for your replys.....
larry you have made it a tad clearer now......many thanks!!!
didn't realise i didnt have to keep wiibrickblocking them. (until 3.5E i guess)
i suppose its trial and error....after all its only a disc wasted if it dont work, just thought id be able to sort it. I only ever download from newsgroups and get whats there...(4 days retention)

how do i set up the wiikey to auto block updates? I had the chip installed by someone on the tinternet and all he said was that it was updateable by dvd. Would i still be able to update via the wii itself or have to turn it off?

many thanx for your patience
Gazza!!!

i have no idea what im doing...but i will get there!!!

why did you ban iceman? I know him and he's on this site non-stop. Any chance you will give iceman his account back? He was just kidding with larry since larry made that comment.

It wasnt joking around that got him in trouble, it was pushing links to the same forum for every question he answered. And most of the answers werent even on the other forum, I checked it out. He was trying to recruit people for the other site.

that's funny since that site is actually mine. Guess he's just another happy member but I don't want my site pushed like that anyway. Am I allowed to post walkthroughs or tips from my site on here?

the only thing you started was this thread so don't worry about it. you ain't the 1 nor the last this has happened to. iceman didn't follow site rules so paid for it. what happens with sentace/iceman remains to be seen.
