Hello!
My xbox is a piece of junk.
Well. Kinda.
My DVD drive stopped working, so I opened the case up (Warrenty was dead anyway, MS said no replacement) and looked at it...I can get it to work by dropping the magnet on top of the game/cd after I put it on, but it works less than half the time. I gotta jiggle shit around to get it to work.
Anyway. I got my serial, MFr and everything, and I'm lookin to buy a new DVD drive to replace it. Couple people say it's possible... but I don't know where to buy one or which one to get. My DVD drive looks like a sideways Bullet Bill from super mario. |==D but the sides are straight.
I can provide additional info if needed.
Help! Thanks. -Zonoko.

Alright.
After looking it up, my drive is apparently a BenQ.
It was made on October 26, 2007.
There are a couple stickers on the drive as well.
Anything else?

its very possible as long as the drive works doesnt ahve to work perfect just powers on and will read games at least partially. basically you need to order yourself a new benq drive, then follow the tutorials for flashing it. dump your orig.bin using dosflash32, then put the new drive in the xbox and hook it up to the computer and flash your orig.bin onto it. that simple.

Do I need any special cables or anything?
Are all BenQ drives the same, or do I need a special drive specific to the specific parts in my specific xbox. Specifically.

if your drive works sometimes and the problem is a
"mechanical" problem with the magets then no flashing is neccessary. Just buy a replacment and put your boards in it.

Is it true that once you replace xbox360's DVD drive, it gets banned as the console's component serial numbers don't match anymore?

no thats not true, there are many people that have replaced drives and use live without a ban.
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Can someone help me find a place to buy one? All I know is that it's a BenQ drive... but is there a certain TYPE of BenQ drive, or are they all the same?
Blargh, please help, it just died completely!

You won't need an identical BenQ. You will need to get your DVD-Key from your current drive, and "spoof" that key on to the new drive, regardless of what it is. I'd suggest steering clear of Lite-On and just get a similar BenQ. These can be found on E-Bay for reasonable prices.
